It was one day away from Valentine's in Hekseville. Everyone had been booking reservations in the biggest restaurants in Vendenctre and Pleajune that evening. Syd and Chaz were off work that night. And with nothing to do, Syd just downed a couple bottles of his favorite brand of wine as his friend was in the kitchen making a concerning amount of racket. Cutlery and pans clashing together. "Damnit, that's the wrong..." Chaz muttered and grunted as he continued to get frustrated at the silver and metal items.
Syd didn't know what he was doing until he stumbled in to pester Chaz about it. "What in the hell are you even doing?" Syd laughed as he said the sentence, revealing a sly grin as he sorta got an idea. With all the cake mix and big wooden spoons coated in chocolate a day before Valentine's? There was someone he was making it all for. He even wore a tan apron but it wasn't helping. Even with his sleeves being folded up to his elbows, some of the sugary ingredients still clinged to the white fabric.
"What does it look like?" Chaz seemed annoyed, maybe a bit stressed. He didn't even look at Syd. He obviously didn't know what he was doing, and that cook book didn't seem like it was helping. Chocolate mix all over his clothes.
Syd leaned his elbow against the wall. "Ya need help with something?" Syd walked over to the overworked lieutenant and looked at the book he was following.
"No, I think I'm perfectly fine, thanks," The guy still kept his eyes locked on the mess, it made Syd smirk, "but you can help by not bothering me." Syd found amusement out of Chaz's tone. He didn't understand why. Just a small fixation.
Chaz started up on another step, of the book. "Who is this for anyway? I didn't think of you as a romantic. Then again, you have changed a lot." He chuckled to the thought of Chaz actually asking out someone with messy chocolates.
"And, so what if it is for someone? It's not like I like them or anything, it's just an appreciation gift..." There it was, Syd's read enough comics to know what Chaz actually means by, 'it's not like I like them or anything,' because that's exactly what it means. Syd wanted to know who Chaz's crush was so bad. He was usually so shut in, the thought of him opening up excited him.
Syd noticed a little heart shaped box and reached out to grab it, and when Chaz realized, it was a little too late. The box read, 'A thanks to you' but it wasn't or didn't seem like a romantic way. Until Syd flipped the top over. "H-hey! Don't go snooping!" He quickly grabbed it before Syd could read any of it. But it did seem suspicious.
"Oh come on, whos the lucky girl? Lemme guess, someone you grew close to over the three years? Ooo, you have been going to Pandoras Fortune, perhaps our broke cop is swayed by the gold digging Aki?" Syd joked around as he moved away towards the fridge for another bottle. Chaz rolled his eyes, eyebrows furrowed. He didn't understand why this oaf thought Aki was the one to steal his heart.
Not even blush on the man's face from embarrassment. Aki couldn't have been it, Syd thought. Syd popped a bottle open and watched the other man put the tub of chocolate to the side and put on ovenmits to pull out an unfrosted cake from the oven.
"Oh, you're making a whole cake for her?"
Chaz nodded slowly as he grabbed a rubber spatula and smeared the frosting over the plumb heart shaped cake. "Maybe."
Syd took a sip of his drink as he watched the other man. His hair being a slight mess dangling over his forehead. Syd smiled to the look. "Well, whoever it is, they're lucky you care this much." Syd said and he took a sigh.
"What about you? You hardly talk about your love life, or are you just a pump and go kind of guy?" Syd scoffed, slightly offended but also impressed.
