All I could hear was the screams and they all sounded the same. I was as confused as everyone else but I didn't jump out of the ship, I was confused, but sane. For a second I may have heard a sweet melodic voice singing a single note, but everything around me spun so fast I couldn't see where that voice came from and as suddenly it came, it disappeared.
My head pounded one more time, when I looked up, it seemed like everything came back at once: the sound of the ocean, the wood popping and the only voice I could recognize: James.
"EDDY! CAN YOU HEAR ME? GET THE FUCK UP, MATE, EVERYONE IS INSANE, WE GOTTA GET OUT OF HERE OR WE WILL SINK!" He screamed.
He came closer and offered me his hand, I stumbled but got up and saw the entire thing for the first time. There was blood on some spots, two or three corpses on the deck, but the worst thing is that none of the screams came from inside the ship, not a single one.
"Eddy, listen!" James screamed, "I don't know what is going on, but it's just the two of us now, we gotta take this ship out of this damn place, right?"
I agreed and ran to the steering wheel and turned it to either side, since I could not see shit with the haze, it didn't take long for the storm to go off and the sea to calm down.
When the water settled, James stood gazing into nothingness.
"It's starring at me." He said, out of nowhere.
"What's starring at you?"
"The thing that killed the others, it's starring at me."
I approached and gazed at the horizon. I could see a bloody rock, a gross grey creature sitting on it, starring directly at us, my soul trembled inside of me, it had the looks of death itself.
"Why did it let us live?" He said.
"It's a mermaid"
"What do you mean, Ed?"
"My name's not Ed, it's Ava." I said, he didn't answer. "What's yours?"
