The land went smoothly, and soon enough we were off the plane, heading towards border security, little blue cards that had been filled out on plane in our hands. Jayne and Cupid wandered down the hall hand in hand. Angel and I were a little more tense in our step.
The border security was set up much more openly then the Australian one, with small podiums in an open space. The queue went quickly, and we stepped up to it. The man smiled at us warmly, spending only an extra fraction of a second on our appearances.
"Hello, just a quick few questions before you can grab your bags. Could I have your papers please?" We handed them over, smiling at the man.
"Holiday huh? Where are you visiting?" he smiled at us warmly.
"Just heading round the different glaciers and stuff really. We are going to be quite flexible." I smiled back.
"Well, as you know, with all this stuff about the child, and your appearances, I just have to let you know to attempt to stay in contact, and if any information comes to light, please be available for questioning." We nodded.
"Now, any food or perishables?"
"Just a bag of peanuts from the plane." Cupid held them up.
"All good. Well that looks all good, you can purchase sim cards on your way out to stay in contact." We nodded, waving goodbye."Well, he was nice." Jayne said smiling. I nodded. That went much better than anticipated. As we headed into the baggage conveyer, I noticed a security guard stopping the rude man from the plane. I smiled widely as he was taken in the direction of customs. A small amount of karma for him.
We grabbed our backpacks quickly as they came out in the first wave of bags, before walking through the arrival gate. We all sighed loudly. One part down.
"Alright, I'm going to book us in a bus for the trip round the island. Angel will go get the sim card. You two look up a camping store in Christchurch, and somewhere we can spend the night." I directed. Everyone nodded and split up. I walked up to the bus's kiosk, and began planning our trip.We reconvened by some benches about half an hour later. As Angel walked up to us, tired look on face, I hopped onto my phone, making sure my bank knew I was in New Zealand.
"How did the sim card go?" I asked, still looking at my phone.
"Got one without a plan in the end, we will just top it up on the go. How about tonight's accommodation?"
"We found a cheap place just outside of the main city. It's a house, and pin coded so we won't have to meet the owners. Paid for. How about the buses, what does our trip look like?"
"I decided the best way to do this is to be on the move constantly. I can cancel the buses up to an hour beforehand, so if we have to get off at a random stop or something it won't mess up our entire plan. Warning, they are going to be looong journeys, so best to pick up some power banks. I'll tell you more at the house." I said, eyeing the cameras.Angel sighed, putting the sim card into her phone with a bit of a struggle.
"I was thinking, if we need to be off the gird as much as possible, we need to take out all our cash as soon as possible."
"Shit, I never thought about that..."
"It's alright, my card has a sort of VPN technology behind it, it's on the blockchain. All my purchases are anonymous." I piped up. Everyone looked at me. I shrugged.
"It's the bank my Dad used." No one questioned me after that.We walked out of the airport to the taxi rank, climbing into a taxi. The taxi man was talkative to Cupid, discussing about the 'coming end of the world'. Angel and I focused on her phone, where she had pulled up the recent news reports.
