Few days later, after my surprise encounter with Mr. Nice Guy whom until now I still didn't know his real name except that his stage name was I.D, I was getting ready to attend Faith's family's party. Her parents were celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary and all of Faith's closest friends were invited. It was like a tradition. Her family always throw a party every month. They just annoyingly got so much things to celebrate and I was obligated to go as her father, Thomas Peterson was my papa's company largest shareholder after papa himself. He would threaten me to cut my allowance if I missed any of their parties which was just pure bullshit.
Speaking of Mr. Nice Guy, I ran away after I knew it was him who was singing on the stage. I was such a coward, I know. But I was not ready to meet him again just yet. Besides, I would never allow anyone to dismissed me like he did ever again. I was weak and weak was never in my vocabulary of life.
Since I fired the last housemaid, my papa had decided not to find a replacement and hired a housekeeper who would come in the morning only to clean the house. Now, I had to do everything else by myself. He said which I quote 'I want you to learn how to do things on your own so you would appreciate everything that was handed to you which you taken for granted.'
Did he seriously think he could scare me? Who did he think he was to teach me a lesson about life? As far as I remembered, he was only my financial benefactor. Papa must be delusional. I would never affected by his petty threat. I already got my game plan at the back of my head like a tattoo. I hired a new maid myself without my father's knowledge. Problem solved, well done. I might be stupid in Chemistry but I could proudly say that I was excellent in money management, especially papa's money. I was now a millionaire myself.
He did gave me a huge amount of allowance every month in which he thought he could compensate for all the love he could never give me and I was smart enough to have my own saving just in case one day he would disown me. I bet he was itching to do that since mama's funeral. I was never his favourite child. It was always Fernandez who he worshiped and cherished. I was only the black sheep in this fucked up family and I was proud of it because there was nothing to be proud of to be a part of this family.
I looked at my own reflection in the mirror for the last time and when I was happy with my appearance I quickly texted Calum, my current boyfriend to pick me up. We started dating a week ago, I met him during the football friendly match. He was the captain for his team and his school was our biggest rival. I was so glad when his team won over Alex's stupid team. Even though it was only a friendly match and nothing big but I would never forget Alex's face when he saw I kissed Calum. He was stupefied and outraged. He really hated Calum to his gut. For all I know was Calum was someone who would hit below the belt. In simple words, he played dirty and he knew how to be subtle about it. I liked that about him.
"Wow, you're gorgeous." said Calum as he kissed me on the lips.
"You're not bad yourself." I said. He was looking extra good tonight, very different from his usual messy bad boy style. He grinned even wider showing his perfectly aligned teeth.
We walked hand in hand as we went inside Peterson's mansion. It was only 8pm but the house were already filled with people. No doubt everybody who came tonight were just their butt lickers.
"Kiera! I'm so glad you made it." Faith said as she pulled me into a hug and I had to let go of my hand from Calum's grip.
"Could never missed the world for this. You are lucky to have such a loving parents." I said in a fake excitement and returned her hug.
"Aw, that so sweet coming from you." she squealed as she squeezed me one last time before letting me go. "Oh Calum, thanks for coming too." Faith was now facing Calum but she didn't make any move to hug or kissed him on the cheek for greeting because she knew that my boyfriend was always off limit to anyone. Instead she just hand out her hand for a quick handshake. "This party looks great." Calum replied trying to be polite because let's be real, this party was boring as hell. It was full of businessmen in their business suit who were also obligated by their job to come to this party. Plus, classical music was never my thing.
"Faith, can you please accompany Calum for awhile? I'm going to greet your folks in a moment." I said and Faith nodded in return appeared rather delighted to spend the time with my hot boyfriend. For a second, I felt like taking Calum along with me because I knew Faith enough that she always want to have what I have. Unfortunately, I couldn't because I didn't want him to witness what was going to happen next. I kissed Calum on the lips before I passed through the crowd to meet Thomas and Eve Peterson.
I needed to shove my face into their sight so that they could report to papa about my deed.
"Congratulation on your 20th wedding anniversary Mr and Mrs. Peterson." I said half-heartedly.
"You came. I thought you would not dare to come anymore." Eve Peterson said looking amused to see me.
Thomas nudged her with his elbow as he snickered. "This girl would do anything for some money." They giggled as if I was a comedian doing a stand up comedy right at this moment. Other people who were around us were also looked at me with an amused expression and some of them were whispering something nasty about me obviously while looking at me.
For a fact, they never liked me. Lucky it was mutual. I did try to be civil with them, but they always find a way to get the bad out of me.
"Yeah true, I remember when Joseph cut her allowance for being rude at our party before. She was going insane that I thought I would have to finally step into mental facility for a visit." She insulted me and laughed it off in a very elegant way and other people joined her too, to make it even worse.
"She is nothing like Joseph and Fernandez, I bet the rumour about Elise's bastard is true after all." Thomas added and I flinched at his word. I would never give a damn if people insulted me, because I'm used to it and I deserved it half of the time. But, mama was an angel and she never deserved any insult thrown into her.
I clenched my fist and took a deep breath to calm myself. I had enough of their bullshit.
"I'm glad that both of you appeared to be so happy." I smiled as wide as I can and put my hand on my chest as if I was touched despite my urge to kill them right now. "Who knows you will die out of old age tomorrow. Enjoy your life while you can." I took a glass of wine from the passing waiter and raised my glass of wine to them before I sip it all in one shot. It was enough to make them shut the fuck up. Thomas narrowed his eyes as he glared at me and Eve grimaced.
"And oh Mrs. Peterson?" I said and her grimace was now replace with baffled look. I took her hand with my other free hand while she was off guard and squeezed it lightly with a pretence concern look plastered on my face. "I would suggest you to book a new appointment for your botox injection as soon as possible because I noticed it's wearing off. Not gonna lose to a sloppy young mistress aren't we?" she jerked her hand from my grip as my words came out of my graceful voice. Now, it was my turn to snicker as I noticed the colour on the both of their faces were drained. Thomas extra-marital activity was an open book but nobody ever brave enough to talk about it and kudos to myself for bringing this up. The only person who was oblivious to this was only Faith but I figured not anymore because she had appeared among the crowd with Calum tagged along behind her.
She left as soon as she heard me and Calum followed her suit. I felt bad for her just for a moment. She lived her life in a bubble created by her own parents. She thought she had the perfect family, although perfect never existed in real life. However, that was the least of my concern right now. I would deal with it later.
Now the whole room was in silence that if a pin dropped in this room we could hear it on ASMR quality. All eyes were on me but not for too long because they were all now focused on the figure behind me.
"Kiera! Let's go home, now!" The voice was loud enough that it echoed inside the massive room.
Uh-oh. I recognised that voice very well. I turned around and saw papa with stern expression plastered on his face.
At least, I had my saving and trust fund right? Because now I realised I just fucked up big time.
