CHAPTER 22
Charlie's/Victoria's POV :
Oh how grateful I was that my tears didn't blind my vision. Although I did wish that they would stop flowing with this frequency. My feet ached from exhaustion and there were still hints of a tingly burning sensation around my calves where the vine was wrapped. Why was that happening? my mind pondered.
I tried my hardest to keep my thoughts astray to avoid focusing on the unbelievable findings I managed to conceive in the last 10 hours. My brain might've easily shut down by how overwhelmed it had been but I managed to keep things running and all the vital cogs functioning. But I feared it wouldn't be this way for too long. I needed to break free and let it all out of my system.
I finally made it to the sidewalk leading to my front porch and things started looking hazy. I felt the scene in front of me shift out of focus and my knees quiver in response.
"Charlotte!!!" An ear ringing loud voice screamed out towards my direction. A tall figure rushed to my aid and his large arms provided a good landing spot for my overly exhausted body. My inner voice was still strong but my body gave in to the fatigue and collapsed.
"You're safe now, sweetheart." My dad whispered into my ear, and kissed my forehead. He heaved a sigh of relief as he carefully carried me to the large couch in our living room.
"We need to talk." I said between weak breaths and then as if I were knocked out, I passed into a state of dark silence.
Stiles's POV :
I'm surprised I haven't had a panic attack with the way things were progressing. We hadn't heard from the Hales after they ran out into the woods and Scott decided to stay to keep an eye on Isaac, who was now out for probably an hour. I stood at the corner of the dimly lit operation room in Deaton's vet, with my back leaning against the cold, hard wall. Deaton stood by Isaac's left and Scott on his right side. The early rays of dawn started peeking into the room, subtly brightening everything in it's path.
I noticed Issac's face as he laid still on the medical bed and surprisingly, it looked like it was at utter peace. For the first time, since I've known him, his face didn't make me wanna punch him. Not that it was ever a good idea to punch him, or any other werewolf I know. I don't deal well with broken bones and being human, the slight disadvantage of no supernatural healing abilities tends to get in the way.
A rush of cold air from the vents hit me without warning causing even the hair at the back of my neck to stand up.
"Sorry dude! It's just getting really hot in here." Scott responded to my immediate change in expression as he walked back from the AC control panel to take his place beside Isaac.
Scott then continued, "I think you should go home, Stiles. Probably get some sleep and ..."
"SLEEP?! YOU THINK I CAN SLEEP WITH ALL THE CHAOS UNRAVELLING HERE?! CHARLIE IS F**KING MISSING, SCOTT! I am not okay! I wanted to be the one to protect her, but I'm just ...! I don't have glowing eyes or super human strength! I can't do anything!" My entire body started shivering rigorously. There was no use of trying to keep away the panic attack, frustration had already overwhelmed me. My breathing was shaky and I just ached on the inside. The truth in my words hit me and I couldn't change the facts. All I could do now was to figure out a way to find her and keep her safe. I shuddered when my mind presented me with the possibility that she might not be okay.
"If that Deucalion guy ever so much as alter even the way her hair is parted, I swear to God Scott, I'll go Darth Vader up his ass! No force will stop me!" My hands balled into fists and my muscles tensed up as a response to the fight mode my body opted for.
