It's a Sunday and like the name, it was burning this afternoon. I stood outside my gate waiting for bike.
Mum had asked me to get vegetables and beef from the mall for fried rice, and here I am standing right under this killer sun. That was the only thing I like about Sundays. I don't like the weather, don't like the fact that it always so dry and lifeless and don't like Sunday services.
I was wearing a brown polo and my favourite grey skinnies and was sweating as though I just left the shower.
I sighed in relief as a bike came around from a corner, I flagged him down.
"Oga segzy, Na junction?"
"No sir, JustRite"
He smiled widely and it felt weird. I have always noticed this guy, he's always touchy and smiling around me as though we are best friends.
"Oya come make we ride" he said still grinning from ear to ear showing off is brown multi coloured teeth
I smiled back and climbed on then he rode off.
While sitting I took that opportunity to check him out.He wasn't looking all too bad for a bike rider, he was dark skin, pretty darker than normal, I guess too much exposure to sunlight caused it and had this dirty look too. He was wearing an orange baseball cap that looked as though it was never washed and poorly kept. He was wearing a sweat shirt and a thick cardigan worn over it, you could notice his biceps too, it stood with every grip he had on the bikes handle. He was very manly and firm but a bike man.
I was so deep observing that I didn't notice he was talking not until the bikes galloped.
"Oga segzy you no talk ni?"
"Eh? Wetin you talk abeg?" I stammered.
"I say your money na 300 naira."
His voice sounded shaky but lively and I thought what could be the reason.
"Kilosele! I don't have that money to give you biko, it 200 or you take me back."
"Haha haha shoo oga, you too like aro ro abeg."
"You seem happy today Dangote, may I know why?"
"Na you na oga. I don't know, anytime I carry you, bodi dey always sweet me and plus as you dey go JustRite e don sure for me be that"
I laughed hard and tapped him on the shoulder, he screamed awkwardly.
We got there and I alighted. I gave him 300 naira, he thanked me and was about igniting the engine when I requested for my change
"Aww oga na" he sounded disappointed
I smiled and walked away asking him to keep the change, he hailed me and rode off.
I walked to the mall with the door parting ways, the cool chill breeze from the mall hit my face and Mike Posner song playing took a pill in Ibiza; exactly what I needed this sunny day. I was heading down the food wear when my phone rang. I looked at the screen, the caller was my friend 'Boma.
"Yea hello ore." I said to the phone after I picked.
"Friendship what's up?"
"I'm good oo, just this harsh sun though. What's Up?"
"I dey your house"
"Oh ok chill, I came to get stuffs at the mall, will be home soon."
I hanged up; I walked down the food wear section picked two canned mixed fruit and got 3 beefs paid the cashier and went home.🌈🌈🌈
Boma is that one friend you wish you had. He has this very thick manly voice that rings when ever he laughs, he is the sassiest being I have ever known, very down to earth, lively and gay. He is caramel skin and way cute to be straight, little wonder why ladies wouldn't let him breath. We met back in the university with two others friends Adam and Uthman he was older than the three of us and always on our side and we glued like shadows to humans. He is the only straight guy amongst us but the only guy you can always confide in with problems relating to breakups and hook-up with bisexuals.
He laughed hard after I told him bout Charles.
"Are you cursed?" He said deadpanned
"How na?" I asked confused.
"Must you always give an attitude?"
"Babes the rate at wish I receive calls lately eh, you'd think I work as a customer service."
"And why is that?"
"Do I know? I don't understand myself." I got up from the bed picked my empty bowl I dished rice and left for the kitchen to help myself for more. Fried rice has always being my favorite meal, sometimes I wished we could always eat it. We only get to cook that on Sundays. I walked back to the room then my mum's voice rang from her room.
"When you're both done eating, go and buy fuel o"
"Ok"
I walked in, Boma was on his phone typing. He looked up at me when he saw me.
"So what do you think?" I asked setting myself on my bed.
"Perhaps your picture, remember you've changed you p.p." he answered carelessly typing away.
"Maybe."
I am the type that doesn't take Facebook serious, I change my profile picture once in three years and I hardly post also. Sometimes I wander why Facebook haven't deactivated my account already. I'm an Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat person. Perhaps I got bored of Facebook since the world started tweeting and using snaps and IG.
"It's not like I have changed na." I said stretching my hands forward in front of me and examining myself.
"Says you na." We both laughed and left the room to get fuel.
