Chapter 31

Once they both ate, they fell back asleep, and I set out to go search the cave. If the problem wasn’t in the cave, I don’t know where it would be. I lit a torch, and headed into the crystal tunnel. I looked carefully at the crystals to see if there was anything suspicious, but that probably wouldn’t help if I didn’t look at the crystals they both brought back first.

Stupid! Why didn’t I think of that before I left?! Well, too late now. I’ll just have to do my best. I looked at the jewels very closely, seeing if there was anything unusual. I didn’t find anything by the time I ended up at the end of the tunnel, so I took a look at the giant crystal.

It still had the red and blue fog, separated, but still combined at one point. That one point would mean that they both agreed on one thing and that would probably be that they both love me or something like that. That was just my opinion.

I looked carefully at the crystal and noticed something. There was a cluster of brown at the line where the colors combined. I was sure that was the sickness Kyo and Ryoma shared.

“Hey crystal, I think you might be able to understand me because last time I talked to you, you changed colors. So why are Kyo and Ryoma sick? Is there any way you could give me some information about it?”

The crystal turned all brown, and then I saw the creepiest thing. There were words being written in the ground in front of the crystal with nothing. They just appeared. The words that I guess the crystal wrote said, “It isn’t just a sickness, it is a curse, a curse for falling in love with you.”

“Wait a minute, they’re cursed just for loving me?!”

The words disappeared, and then a different sentence appeared.

“Yes, for falling in love with you, you are no ordinary girl. You have a special gift, a gift which those two have becomed involved in.”

“Wait a minute, what are you talking about, I don’t have any special gift! What kind of crazy are you spewing?!”

“Hush, child. Your gift makes the people that fall in love with you suffer. If anyone ever tries to love you, they shall perish. That’s why your family was murdered, but you survived.”

“Wait, my family died because of this gift?! What is this gift?!”

“Your gift, the gift that you possess, makes you different from everyone in this world. You, my dear, aren’t even human. If anyone loves you even the slightest bit, then they become cursed. The two boys you love were cursed when they met you. They made the biggest mistake of their lives, falling in love with you. You on the other hand, can never be cursed by anything or one. The gift makes you immune to supernatural events like this, and it can perform many other wonderful acts. But it comes with a price. That price is that anyone that loves you shall perish. Do you understand?”

“No! Why do I have this—“

Suddenly, I heard a voice in my head. It said, “That s the price that people must pay. That’s how your family died.” And now the crystal is in my head... joy.

“Wait, you’re saying that this stupid gift killed my family?”

“That’s exactly what I’m saying. That’s why the pirates came. And that is why the two boys you love shall both perish too. The sickness I was able to implant them with when they both touched me. The red was from the boy who thought of anger, and the blue was from the boy who thought of sadness.”

“So, Kyo and Ryoma, are going to die from this gift?”

“Yes, and I was the one who gave you this gift. Haven’t you noticed that the birthmark on your arm is the exact same shape as me?”

I looked the birthmark on my arm, and saw this thing wasn’t kidding. This terrified me. Not just the creepy crystal, but the thought of losing Kyo and Ryoma. THen I'd be all alone again, and that was something I wasn't going to accept.

“So, my gift is in my birthmark?”

“Yes, I curse anyone who loves you, trying to keep you all alone.”

I began to cry, saying, “No, this isn’t happening, Kyo and Ryoma aren’t going to die!”

“Ah, but you are too late my dear. They shall be dead in just moments from now.”

“No... NO!!!”

I start charging back to the shelter at full speed, with that cruel, evil crystal’s voice still inside my head.

“Your efforts are futile. By the time you reach them, they’ll be almost dead. I would speed up the process, but if I did, I would faint from exhaustion and the curse would not proceed, but still be in those boys.”

“Kyo!!! Ryoma!!! Don’t die on me!!! I'll kill you if you do!!!”

I reached the shelter, my face starting to flood up with tears, and I see Kyo and Ryoma, breathing heavily, vomiting into the bucket that was now overflowing, and screaming in pain.

“Sakura… help… us.”

I ran up to Kyo, putting his head on my lap and stroking his head, repeatedly saying, “Kyo! You’re okay; you’re going to be fine.”

I remembered that the crystal said that the gift was in my birthmark. I moved Kyo's head, grabbed my spear, and began to stab my wrist, trying to destroy my birthmark, hoping that this would save them. If not, then I would be alone again. All alone...

“No, what are you doing child?! What… what you are doing will… will murder me.”

“Go to hell! No one is going to kill anyone today, except for me. Goodbye you terrible demon.”

“Noooooo!!!”

The voice disappeared, and then Kyo and Ryoma fainted.

“Kyo! Ryoma! Are you guys okay?!”

I saw Ryoma, his eyes barely open, giving me a thumbs up sign, saying, “We’ll be… just fine.” He then fainted again. I was happy they were okay, and then I put the guys back in their beds and cleaned up the room.

The guys seemed to heal slowly, but they still were just a little sick with a fever. I remembered how Ryoma gave me a thumbs up, and then I thought what the hell? What person gives a thumbs up these days?
