The days leading up to Saturday eventually passed, and everyday I woke up more nervous for the party. I woke up on Saturday morning and immediately texted Olivia. "Do you really think Max is gonna turn up tonight?" I was hoping she would say no, but there was a little part of me that was hoping he would be there. "I'm not really sure. Just don't worry about it, try and enjoy yourself and show him that you're happy." I started biting my nails through worry and felt my heartbeat speed up. Later that afternoon Olivia came round to help me get ready, and picked out an extremely short burgundy dungaree dress with a black top to go underneath. "This is pretty, wear this tonight" "I'm not sure Olivia, it looks pretty short. I haven't worn it in so long." She dragged me off of my bed and handed me the two items. "Just go try it on, you'll change your mind when you see what you look like in it." I went to the bathroom and quickly changed into the outfit. I thought it looked nice, but was it too much? I slowly walked out of the bathroom and Olivia stood at the door smiling at me. "You look amazing. Now for hair and a little makeup."
We went on for the rest of the afternoon getting ready and singing to Ariana Grande songs. My Mum dropped us off at Olivia's after her parents left and we sorted out drinks ready for people to turn up. My anxiety level was high, but I tried to brush it off, getting Max out of my head.
As people started to turn up I kept looking out the window for Max and Harvey. Olivia kept dragging me away, trying to talk to other people, and any boys she could get me to talk to. But honestly, they were boring. Just as I was talking to some boy who's name I can't remember, I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. "Hey Leah, I'm here." This voice was familiar, but it could've belonged to any of two people. I quickly turned around to see who it was, and not really knowing if it was a good thing or not, it was just Harvey. "Hey Harvs, you okay?" I leaned to the side to see if Max was with him, and he wasn't. "No, Max isn't here. You look really pretty by the way." I let out a huge unexpected sigh. Harvey laughed at me, and I realised he knew part of me wanted to see Max. "You like him don't you?" His head tilted slightly, allowing me to see more of his blonde highlights. He gave me a side smirk. "What, phhh no..." There was an awkward silence between us where all you could hear were the beats in the music and everyone talking. I looked down at my shoes and started to fiddle with my hands. "C'mon Leah, it's so obvious." I looked up to him but I got distracted by something behind him. Through all of the people in the living room I saw something, or someone, by the door that stood out to me. The song had changed from a loud beat to 'Everything has changed' and all of the talking surrounding me felt as if it was cut silent. I knew who this was. And I couldn't believe they turned up.
