The next morning, I woke up screaming. My stepmother, Rose, burst through my door. It was written all over her face, that she was worried.

''Alice, are you alright?'' she asked with a hurry in her tone as she sat next to me on my bed. I nodded as a response, even though I wasn't sure if I was alright. She took my hand and made circles with her thumb on it, trying to make me feel calm.

''It's going to be alright,'' she kept repeating. After she made sure I had calmed down, she left to make some breakfast. The second she shut the door, I started thinking about the night again. Was it all a dream? Or reality? I sighed at all these unanswered questions. I should be getting ready, I thought to myself.

When ready, I grabbed my bag and went downstairs for some breakfast. I sat down behind the table and ate silently. I then heard a 'ding' coming from my bag. Must be my phone. I took the phone out of the bag and checked it. The message was from Lilith, my friend from France. We coincidentally met at a popular RPG game a couple years ago. We instantly became close friends and have been since that day. We used to talk for hours, but as we're getting older and school's getting more difficult, it hasn't been easy to find a suitable time to talk.

''Hey!'' the text simply read. I quickly typed out my answer.

''Hi, what's up?''

''Nothing really. Just been wondering, how you've been?''

''I've been alright,'' I answered. Although I wanted to tell her about last night, I was still hesitant about it even being real. I needed to find some answers first.

''But I've got to go now, need to get to school,'' I then sent another message.

''Alright, bye!'' Lilith's final answer read. After the conversation I put my phone away.

''Bye!'' I said with a bit of a louder voice than normal to Rose and sprinted out of the house. I spent a bit more time at home this morning so I needed to rush to get on the school bus. Just as I thought I was about to make it, the bus drove away. Typical. I guess I just have to walk then.

And so I did. I walked to school and arrived incredibly late. No surprise there, really. And of course I had to be late for Mrs. Lily's class, my 'not-so-favourite-teacher' which I got scolded for. Once again, no surprise there.

Other than that situation, the day went by pretty fast, I didn't even properly notice it before the school day was over. I quickly grabbed my things from the locker and went outside to wait for the bus. My shoulders felt heavy from the same position all day. A small drop landed on my head, startling me. I looked up at the sky. The sky was covered with grey clouds, with no light shining through them. The rain was slowly getting heavier, which made me hope the bus would arrive sooner.

By the time the bus arrived, I was already soaked, but honestly, that didn't really bother me. I sat at the back of the bus and watched how the rain drops decorated the window. It was like watching a small race between the small drops of water. Quite fascinating, really. It was making me sleepier every second. At one second, my eyelids felt too heavy, so I closed them. I then fell into a deep slumber.
