Horse racing is a lot of things. A sport, a business, a spectical. The track is a place for a hopeful beginning. Of triumph, and sometimes heart break. And always at the center of it all are the horses.

Race horses they are built like watches. A study in balance, big tall full bodied animals, with a neck and head so refined, like a drawing by De Venchi.

When most racehorses turn two they have started training. 5 months later they are tested on their time. At a track there are new sounds, new sights, expetially that great mile and a half oval of a track.

The start of a new racing season a time of high expectations. And also when trainers, grooms, and jockeys get together to try to plan how they think their season is gonna go. Most horses all they want to do is flat out run. Most jockeys never have a snug hold on the horses they also over use their crops. The jockeys that don't use their crops will most likely win because most horses don't really know why jockeys smack them when they are already galloping.
