Chapter one
~Safire~
"Why do we have to move here?" My younger sister whined for the thousandth time today. I swear if she whines one more time I'm going to go insane. Sticking me in a car with a 5 year old sister for six hours isn't exactly the best idea my dad came up with. I mean seriously, it's like he wants me to strangle her or something.
"We're moving here because dad got a promotion and unless you want to keep getting all those barbies that you love, he needs to keep his job." I snap and she immediately shuts up. I sigh and look over at her from the window. "Look, It's going to be ok, I'm sure you'll love it here. I checked google and it said that there is a park two blocks from where we are going to live. I'll take you there one day so you can meet some new friends." She instantly perks up and I look back at the road with a small smile on my face. Ok, maybe she's not so bad, but she's still annoying. I pull into the driveway and gape at the house in front of me. It is gorgeous! It is a white three story house with rose bushes and various plants between each bush. Theres a willow tree beside the house that looks like it would be a perfect place to read. The door is red with shutters to match. It's a cliche suburban house, but I've always had a thing for cliches. Jaxyn, my younger sister, squeals and jumps out of the car. She leaves the car door open and I groan.
"Jaxyn Stewart, come back here and shut the door!" I yell after her. Hearing me call her name makes her run faster away from the car. "Twerp!" I yell and she giggles running to the houses door and goes inside to explore. I sigh and jump out of the car. I shut both the doors and walk up to dad.
"How the heck did you afford this?" I say as a greeting. Dad laughs and hugs me.
"I got it as part of the promotion, I still got to pay for it, but not at full price. How was the ride with Jaxyn?" I whistle at the house and go to grab a few boxes from the moving truck.
"Never, do that to me again! I had to listen to her whine about the new house for hours and it was so annoying." I grab a box with my name on it. I start to walk into the house and dad follows close behind.
"She's just upset about leaving all her friends." he stops and I turn around to look at him. "Speaking of friends, are you going to be ok with leaving them all?"
"I'm not going to lie, I'm going to miss all the girls from the gym, but I know it's for the best and I'll be ok. I'm sure I'll find some new ones. I looked up the closest gym and there's one in town so I can practice there." I look at him and he smiles.
"You have been so good about this, I don't know what I would do without you kido." I give him a reassuring smile and turn around to walk up the steps to the house. I carry the box up stares to the room that is now mine and set the box on my new bed. I look around the room and smile at the paint my dad did on the walls. The walls are painted black with paint splatters of neon and white colors. It is something me and my dad started doing when I was a kid. My dad came up with the idea that if we splattered it with neon paint and then put a black light around the walls of the room, it would look like a nightlight of exploding colors. I've had my room like that ever since the first time he's done that.
I glance at all the things in my room and notice everything is neon. My desk is a bright blue with a lime green chair. My sheets are hot pink and the bed frame is a very bright violet that is my favorite color. I grin at the room and my dad walks into the room.
"What do you think kido?" my dad asks me and I attack him with a hug.
"This is the coolest thing ever! Thank you, thank you, thank you." My dad laughs and he pulls back
"That's not all, you see that huge gap between the bed and the window? I'm going to put a swing chair right there." I smile my biggest smile I can and squeal like a five year old. I know, I know, real mature right? I've just always wanted a swing chair.
"You are the coolest dad on the planet." I say and and hug him again. He laughs and leaves me to unpack. I stuff my clothes in my new violet dresser and set up all my desk stuff. After I put all my stuff up, I go to explore my closet. I open the sliding door and notice there's another door on the other side. I go to open the other door and I squeal again at the sight of my own bathroom. I run back in my room to grab all of my bathroom stuff and start stuffing them in random places.
After a while, I check my watch and see that it's seven pm. My dad calls us for dinner and i sprint down the stairs. There is nothing I love more than food. Back in LA, my friends learned real quick not to mess with me when eating. One time someone tried to take my fries and they ended up on the floor of the cafeteria.
I grab a plate and pile it high with fired chicken, fries, Mac and cheese, and corn. My dad laughs at my eagerness to get food and shakes his head. He himself had a plate pilled high so i smirked and told him he had no room to talk.
"If it weren't for you practically living in a gym, I'm sure you'd be as big as china." my dad grins as he watches me stuff my face with food.
"And if you lived in a gym, you'd still be fat." I huffed as he laughed and turned back to his food. After a few minutes of listening to Jaxyn bragging about her room (Which is completely pink. Cliche I know, but hey we're a cliched family) my dad interjects "Oh, Safire, you start your new high school next week, so if you want I could take you and Jaxyn shopping for clothes tomorrow if you want."
I snort "Dad, we both know you wouldn't know how to shop if I tried to teach you. I'll take Jaxyn tomorrow." He laughs and nods his head in agreement.
"Oh thank god! I was hoping you would say that. I'll leave money for you on your desk tomorrow. I'm going to head into work early, so I won't be there when you wake up. Oh, and buy a few jackets, it rains a lot in North Carolina." I nod my head and excuse my self after eating to go take a shower. After I get out I get ready for bed and lie in bed. I lay there and look at the ceiling. You can do this Safire, just be yourself and keep your walls up. No one will know what happened. In fact this is why you wanted to move, so you could have a new life where no one knows what happened. I fall into a slumber with those words as my last thoughts.
Hey guys so this is my first book I've written so don't hate me on it! Oh and sorry this chapter may seem a bit boring, but it gets better next chapter I promise ;) PS. I'm really southern so sorry if I sound a little stereotypical in some parts :D
