I woke up to one of the janiters banging on my door.
"Hey kid, you alright?"
I rolled over and groaned. I turned and took one look at my alarm clock before springing up. It was 12:30pm! I had slept in past breakfast and was about to miss lunch too! I bolted to the door still in my pajamas. I opened the door and saw Whill standing there with a mop in his hand and a worried expression on his face. He looked at me and smiled. "Rough night?" He asked me.
"I've been having troubles falling asleep." I answered before running down the hall in my night gown.
I entered the dining room my face red. Everybody starred as I grabbed some bread and ham and started making a sandwich. When I finished I headed back to my room. I almost got to my door before Pam jumped in front of me.
"Where do you think you're going young lady?" She asked raising a brow before turning me around and pushing me the other way. I obeyed rolling my eyes.
I walked back to the dining room, Pam trailing behind me. I sat down in one of the chairs at the table and bit into my sandwich, I caught Rose and Ray staring at me. My eyes met theirs and they quickly looked down.Afte lunch was over I got up without pushing in my chair and headed towards the door. I walked outside still in my night wear. I could hear birds singing in the oak trees by the pool and spotted a small brown rabbit hop into the cornfeild close by. The sun felt nice on my face and the grass tickled my feet. I started walking down the old dirt path, rocks hurting my bare feet but I didn't care. There was the slightest breeze and barley any clouds in the sky which held the prettiest blue.
I kept walking until the path crawled to a stop. I stood infront of an abandoned red barn. I looked left to right before sneaking inside. It was dark and smelt of damp grass and dirt. Knotted ropes hung from the ceiling like vines and a row of portraits (each a little better then the one beside it ) on the left wall could be seen. This was my little hide out. Each year I would paint a portrait on the old wooden walls to symbolize my growth. I came here to get away from everybody else, so I could you know, stay sane. I took hold of one of the ropes and jumped, swinging my body from one to the next.
I heard footsteps and fell from the rope I held on to.
"Sam?...Are you in here?" The voice belonged to Tyler.
"How did you-"
"I kind of followed you here...sorry!" He stumbled around in the dark searching for me."Pam is worried sick!" He told me.
"So I'm not dead!" I sighed.
"Com'on! We need to head back now!"
"No you need ro head back now! I'm staying here. Just tell the old woman that I'm off playing in the trees or something!" I said getting back up."Why do you have to be so difficult?" He yelled. That's when he backed into me sending both of us to the dirt. Tyler sprung up grabbing my arm.
"Hey! Ouch, let me go!" I hollered. I stood up and dusted myself off. I lead the way out of the barn and looked at Tyler. He didn't look too happy. "Talk about having a temper!" I joked. There was silence. We walked back up the trailand reached the house, Tyler looked at me and shook his head before opening the door and heading inside.
An irrational looking Pam stood inside.
