Beth's POV:
When I looked up from the fountain and caught Dakota Braves eye, I couldn't help glaring at him. I had now broken a second rule. Rule number 1 was to not make any physical contact with anybody. That rule was broken earlier today when I had bumped into Dakota Brave. Rule number 2 was to not look at anyone in the eyes, only exception is for teachers. That rule was again broken with Dakota Brave staring at me like I was a zoo animal. He; individually, broke 2 of my rules. This is an obvious sign that I should stay away from him. That will be Rule number 4. Rule number 3 is no talking to anyone, of coarse the only exception is to teachers.
My rules are the only reason that I have allowed myself to go to school. That and the fact that I have to finish senior year. I don't plan on going to college, my main reason being that I defiantly won't have enough money. I know for a fact that I won't get a scholarship, so I am not even going to try to bring my hopes in on that one.
When he passed by me, I picked up the sent of vanilla and lavender soap. It smelt so good that I wanted to just smell it all day. I had never smelt anything better in my life.
Oh my gosh, get it together Beth. You are not to like Dakota Braves' soap. Or even smell it for that fact. That should be rule number 5. No smelling Dakota Braves' soap.
There. I think that's good for now. The teacher is probably worried why I'm gone. Or maybe she's not.
As the final bell rang, I just wished I was hearing things. I couldn't go back home. No, I wouldn't. I refuse. Mother is beyond crazy when she is drunk. I will not go home tonight. Or maybe for the rest of my life.
I groaned. I guess I'll just have to find some after-school activity to sign up for.
Before Mom started drinking, and everything was normal, Mom always said I could run. Whether it was for fun, or not; I could run. And I took pride in that. Especially when things were getting messed up and Dad went all out. I ran.
Luckily, Track was at the end of the year, and today you could sign up and tryout. Wow. Just in time.
So, just to prove to myself that I still had something left, I went to where track try-outs were.
And, out of all the people, Dakota Brave was standing right in front of me. In his all proven glory, and vanilla and lavender smelling soap. Oh lord, please help me.
