Should we have stayed home.. and thought of here’? My little sister asked squeezing my hand as we stared at the remains of our once beautiful cottage. It layed beside the river in the spot it had always sat. In the soft dewy grass, with the tall oaks overhanging it. My heart ached as I reminisce the memories spent, the summers spent.. all here in the now decaying and destroyed cottage. Memories flooded in my head, my mother singing while we opened up the windows and shaked the dust out of the carpets, “another summer Celia” she laughed as she danced with me round the kitchen. The birds would chirp and the sounds of the forest would fill my ears, the sun would fall into the window bringing natural light to the cottage.

“ How could this happen” I whispered under my breath as I stared at the mouldy planks of wood and shattered windows.  The dying trees and frosted grass. Erin looked up at me, her big brown eyes burning into mine. Suddenly it occurred to me that Erin had never seen this place before…only heard of it.“ its different” Erin said looking around, her little five year old voice croaked as she saw my tearing eyes. “whats wrong ceils”…“ Erin said her big brown eyes looking into mine “oh nothing little dove, it just looks different, that’s all’ I said kissing her forehead swinging her into my arms.  “ I think it was prettier when we thought about it at home” Erin said snuggling into my neck. “yeh” I reply turning around not daring to look back. “ I agree”

“where are we going now ceils” Erin said holding tightly onto my hand as I yanked her through the forest. I had no idea where to go now.
