Tay's POV:
I woke up the next morning, gingerly. I slowly unraveled myself from Race's arms. I was trying not to wake her up. 'So far, so good.' I thought to myself. I slipped on a pair of pajama pants that were strewn on the floor. To be honest, I had no idea if they were mine or hers. I slipped on a sweater over the black, thin strapped tank top I was wearing. I slipped my unpainted toes into some pop culture referenced flip flops. I padded quietly across the hotel room into the bathroom. I picked up Race's brush and attempted brushing my hair out of my eyes.
'Ugh. I need a haircut.'
I continued brushing my brown hair. I sighed sadly. I really missed my blue hair. I could still have it with the career I had, but I just couldn't take any chances of being unprofessional. After managing my wavy monstrosity, I walked out of the bathroom. I walked over to the bedstand and grabbed my wallet.
'Yay. More spending money.' I strode over to the door. I looked back at my sleeping girlfriend and smiled softly, before heading out the door to cover the motel expenses.
.-.
I shakily walked up to the front desk. Lately, my social anxiety had been getting better, but the aspects of it were still there. I bit my lip nervously.
"H-hi," I muttered, struggling to make eye contact.
"Hello!" chirped the overly happy secretary.
'Seriously dude, fuck you. It's too early for sunshine and Mary Poppins.'
"Um, I'm here to pay for another week or so here..." The secretary smiled apologetically. I could tell something was wrong.
"How long have you been here?"
"A few days. Why do you ask?"
The secretary looked around for a moment. The lobby was empty.
"Follow me," she whispered. She got up from her desk. She walked to the elevator that was a few feet away from her workspace. I cautiously followed her inside. I watched observantly as she hit the button for the second floor. After what seemed like forever of elevator music and awkward tension, we finally arrived to our designated floor.
.-.
The secretary slipped the card into the door slot, waited for it to beep, then stepped into the room. I reluctantly followed her into the room.
"You're Mrs. Ramos, yes?" I nodded.
"Of course! How could I forget you? You're here with your wife, yes?" I blushed profusely.
"I...I...She..we..." I stutterfucked myself. I took a deep breath.
'It's okay, Tay. Breathe. Explain to the kind but nosy woman the situation.'
"We aren't married. I'm not Mrs. Ramos, I'm just Ms. Ramos."
"But you two have the same last name..." she trailed off in confusion. I sighed lightly.
"Yes. After graduation, we ran away to be together. Actually, that was just about six or seven months ago. We didn't go to college. It sucked because it was both of our dreams, but, yeah. So, I applied for a job for a video game company. At first, they were going to hire me as a secretary or something, because I didn't have any college experience. But I proved to my current boss that I am very good with video games and he hired me on the spot. I actually have one of the highest positions. Well, aside from assistant manager thingy person, that is. Race, my girlfriend, works there too, but that's a different story. Anyway! Shortly after we ran away, I decided that I wanted us to have the same last name. It just seemed official, without having to get married. I'm quite terrified of marriage so this was like a happy medium. So, we are both Ms. Ramos, rather than Mrs. Ramos." I finished.
The secretary stared at me.
"Makes sense," she shrugged. I bit my lip nervously.
"So, like.. Do you mind introducing yourself? I'm in a hotel room with you and I don't even know your name." I pointed out.
"Ah, yes. My name is Angie. I'm a secretary here, but I suck at my job. I just smile a lot around the boss. I have a boyfriend who is quite successful and let's be honest, rich. And...That's actually why I brought you here. I can see that you and your girlfriend are very young and well, are in an extreme budgeting situation. I mean, you're staying here, am I right? So, I was thinking about it, so here goes. How would you guys like to live with my boyfriend and I? We live in San Diego." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Someone I'd just met wanted Race and I to live with them. Can I get a por que?
I smiled brightly.
"Are you serious?"
"Dead serious." I giggled.
"Yes! I mean, I'll have to ask Race, but yes, yes, yes!"
.-.
"No, no, no."
"But Race!" I pleaded. "This is an amazing deal. Her boyfriend is rich so there are probably different sections of the house and stuff. They live in San Diego. I dunno if you know this or not, but uh, yeah. We work in San Diego! Do you know how much this means to me?" Race shook her head slowly.
"Baby, you're a dreamer. I like that. That's one out of infinity things I love about you, but you need to be realistic. This is dangerous. You just met this woman. What if she and her boyfriend are luring us into some molestation/rape trap? This isn't a wise decision, love." I sighed. I sat down on the bed, beside her. I lay on my back in defeat. Race lied down, facing me. I copied her actions, flipping over on my side. "How about this?" she began. "We can go home with her during her lunch break or something and check out the house. Then, when her break is over, we can come back here and make a private decision. M'kay?" I smiled slightly.
"M'kay, Mr. Mackey." Race giggled adorably.
"You and your South Park references."
I shifted closer to my tiny girlfriend. We stared deeply into each other's eyes, love flashing in them. She smiled softly.
"You know, if we do get this house, we can't make love."
I frowned. "Why ever not?"
"Mm. There will be people, babe."
"Oh.."
"Mhm." We just lie there staring.
"Maybe we should make love, then. Now. Who knows when we'll be able to do it again?" Race opened her mouth to speak, but I shushed her. "That was a rhetorical question, love."
She smirked. "I was going to tell you to get on your back, but never mind." I felt my heart begin to beat faster.
"I...really?"
She nodded.
"Mhm."
"Well, then tell me."
She shook her head, laughing mischievously. "Nah. You woke me up with your tales of rich strangers. I want to go back to sleep. May I suggest you join me, baby?" She said sweetly.
"You may." I crawled into her arms, snuggling closer to her. She was warm and smelled of Autumn. As I lay there, all I could think about was how much I love her. I didn't want to ever let her go.
.-.
