A/N: All/Most of the other chapters will just be dialogue here after. And for reference: Dick=BOLD , Barbara=Italic. Next chapters will be mostly text messages :)

It wasn't very often that Dick Grayson got in trouble in Gotham Academy. In fact, he didn't put himself out there purposely to get in trouble. It's not that he feared the consequences that would come from the head master of the school. It was more that he feared the consequences that would come from Bruce Wayne.

He couldn't care less for detention or extra assignments. But he cared a whole lot for what could happen if Bruce found out. More specifically what could happen to his night job.

So, when Dick got officially expelled he wasn't too eager to let Bruce know. Instead he decided he was going to do everything in his power to make sure Bruce never found out.

It was the very reason he was bolting home at full speed, the tail of his school blazer flapping behind him like a cape. He booked it down the sidewalk and all the way home, through the large front metal gate and straight up the lengthy driveway.

With Alfred coming back in two days from his trip and Bruce at the office till much later into the night, the house was currently unoccupied. He stuffed his keys into the lock and popped open the door, barreling inside. He let the wind slam the door shut and without stopping kicked off his shoes. One landed a few feet away from the door, and the other at the foot of the grand staircase.

He booked it up the stairs, straight for Bruce's office, barging his way in. He tripped over the threshold, catching himself without ever really stopping. He chambered over to the house phone dock on the end of the large victorian styled desk, it was only when he pulled it from it's spot that he realized he didn't know who he should call.

Dick's eyes flickered to the computer as he played with the notion that seemed to present itself.

A minute later Dick was perched in Bruce's large leather chair, logged in on a guest account, he tapped onto the search engine at the bottom of the computer. His fingers hammered down on the slim keyboard as he pulled up the Gotham Academy school page. He didn't want to talk to the headmaster Hammer, he needed to talk to Hammerhead's boss. He scrolled through the 'Staff & Team' page, all the way down to the bottom, before stopping at a picture of a young women, her job in bolded letters over top the picture.

Yes, the superintendent would do just nice. The person who hired Hammerhead. Who had pointedly got Dick expelled for no reason really. It wasn't even his fault. But the superintendent could get Hammerhead in trouble.

If this person is even still around, Dick thought.

Gotham Academy was old and really Hammerhead was the one in charge. Last Dick heard the superintendent was fired or skipped town. Something like that. But there they were on Gotham Academy's website, which did look like it hadn't been updated since before Alfred's time but it was what it was. There the superintendent was; long fire red hair and the brightest green eyes, rows of pearly teeth that made up a bright smile.

His eyes flickered to the description. Which was short, a general description of what she did, stuff like that. Nothing that was any importance to Dick. But there was something that was important. A nine digit number at the bottom.

"ha ha!" Dick yelled out, snatching the phone up and stabbing the numbers in.

He put the phone to his ear as it rang lowly in his ear. While it was ringing, Dick prepared himself for the coming conversation. He had to sound like Bruce. Act like Bruce. He spent so much time around the guy he was sure he could imitate the man pretty well. All he had to do was lower his voice and act pretty m-

"hello?" a high pitched female voice came through the receiver. The voice was definitely younger sounding than Dick would of expected from the woman in the picture but that didn't matter.

He cleared his throat and dropped his voice low,

"is this Superintendent..." He glanced at the name, "Barbara Gordon?"

"No" the voice on the other end of the line stated bluntly, before quickly adding in a more polite tone, "this is her old phone though."

"oh" Dick's voice went back to normal as he said it.

"So, you're not the boss of Hammerhead then?"

"No, sorry. But your Batman impression was pretty great."

"O-oh" Dick couldn't help but shake his head at the irony, "thanks."

"No problem-o." The girl echoed out, and a second later asked, "so, uh. Any reason you were calling her or?"

"Do you know her?" Dick questioned hopefully,

"Sort of... This is her old phone."

"you said that already."

"No, no. I mean this legitimately her old mobile phone. Like what I'm holding in my hand."

"Oh... Why do you have her old phone. The legitimate one, of course."

"she's sort of my mom."

Dick hoped up off the chair at that, the hope from earlier returning in a quick rush.

"So, you like do know her?"

"Like you could pass a message of mine to her."

"No. I can't."

"Oh."

"Sorry. I got to go now. Hope you get the help you needed."

"Thank-"

Beep.

"You..."
