"Why did you ask Mark to prom?" Hyuck found Lina at lunch buying herself a sandwich. She sighed and continued to walk down the line, not wanting to talk to him. "Hello?" he called out. When she didn't answer again, he took the sandwich out of her hand and held it in the air.
"Hyuck! Donghyuck give it back!" she yelled while reaching for it. His angry expression didn't even twitch, he just held his hand in the air.
"Guys, can you do this somewhere else? You're holding up the line," the kid behind them said. Lina's ears turned red as she grabbed the sandwich from Hyuck's hand while he was distracted.
"Sorry," she apologized before paying for her food. She walked out, Hyuck following close behind.
"What did I do? Why won't you talk to me?" he asked. Her chest tightened up and she rolled her eyes, sitting down at her usual table.
"Guys look at this video it's a monkey eating-,"
"Shut up Jeno, we're in the middle of something," Hyuck said. Jeno, looking extremely hurt, pulled his phone back and turned to Jaemin.
"You don't have to be a dick all the time," Lina told Hyuck, finally making eye contact with him.
"You don't have to ignore me," he replied. She bit her lip with a bitter chuckle.
"No, I don't. But I want to, so I will." She turned to open her sandwich, which Hyuck grabbed again. "Give me my food back or so help you god," she warned.
"You're never this mean to me. Even when you're mad at me you say rude things but we get over it. I hate that you're ignoring me. It's been three years and you've never done this," Hyuck said through sad eyes.
"It's been three years and you never told me you had a thing for me. Now everything's all messed up and I'm jealous and-,"
"You're jealous?" Hyuck cut her off with a smile. She rolled her eyes, irritated that that was the only part he seemed to hear.
"Go away Donghyuck," Lina said to him. He tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and turned her chin to face him. "Seriously," she said, turning her face out of his grip. "I don't want to talk to you right now."
Knowing he wasn't going to get an answer, Hyuck nodded and stood up, grunting angrily as he walked out of the cafeteria. Lina watched him leave, fighting back tears. What had he done to her? She'd never cried about a guy in her life.
If he had just kept his feelings to himself, none of this would have happened. She couldn't wait for someone who didn't know what he wanted, though. She couldn't be confused by him.
"You okay?" Jaemin asked softly from across from her. She looked up and nodded, faking a smile as she unwrapped her sandwich. She wasn't hungry anymore, though she knew she would have to eat it or he would keep asking.
"Why did you ask Mark to prom?" Jeno asked suddenly, bringing up the exact conversation she didn't want to have.
"Because I want to go to prom with Mark," Lina answered dryly before taking a bite of her sandwich.
"But aren't you and Mark like-super close? Like why ask someone like him when you can ask someone like-?" Jeno's voice trailed off as Lina's eyes met his.
"Hyuck?" she asked. He didn't answer just looked back at her. "I'm not going out with Hyuck. We're just friends."
"You and Mark are just friends..."
"Would you leave it alone, Jeno?" Lina found herself getting very frustrated with this interrogation. Jeno bit his lip and nodded, looking at her apologetically.
"Sorry."
She closed her eyes for a second and took a breath to gather herself before reaching out to touch his hand. "I'm sorry, I guess I'm just being hormonal or something. You didn't do anything wrong, I promise."
Jeno smiled sympathetically before Lina took her hand back and ate her lunch quietly, all of her thoughts moving too fast for her to even focus on one.
