~Ashlie's POV~
I see Y/n walking away from salon, and going towards her apartment. I watch from afar, and notice she had been barely talking to her former friends. Perfect. But why was she there in the first place? I guess I will have to find out. I'll find out tomorrow when I have a moment. I don't want to follow her home after all. I see her disappear behind the cab shop. I decide that it's about time to return home. I turn, and walk on the nice paved path until it eventually faded to a dirt path with scattered rocks. I see a familiar apartment complex, and walk inside. I go down my hall, and walk into my door. I sigh, and go into the bathroom. I stare into the mirror. All I see is a sad girl hiding behind her mask of makeup. It's always been this way. I hide behind my makeup, and my clothes. It all began when I was a little girl. My mom and I always had each others back. My father mentally abused us. It wasn't too bad, just made us very self conscious. We were never good enough, we are ugly, we weren't smart, but without him, we were nothing. I remember the day so clearly. My mother came down will an illness. We didn't have the money for a doctor, so we tried those home remedies. We didn't think it was too bad. We thought that she would be ok. We were wrong.
"Ash," A heard my older sister's voice calling me, slightly shaking me. I opened my eyes, and groaned. "Ash, this is serious." I squinted my eyes, still exhausted.
"Yeah, is it time for school?" I asked Michelle.
"No, but seriously." I noticed a seriousness as well as sadness in her voice. My eyes finally focused, and I saw her teary, red eyes. I did as she said. I got ready quickly, and went into the living room. Mom wasn't there. Dad sat me down, and told me the news. Mom was gone. Michelle came and held me close as I sobbed. I was 13. It was a turn for the worse concerning my life.
A year later, it was only Michelle and I sticking together. Dad never was like he used to be. He may have called us names, and told us we weren't good enough, but, we still got along ok. Now, he got us food, and clothes, and gave us money, but he never really talked to us unless he was telling us to make better grades, that we aren't pretty, he'd ask why we didn't have a boyfriend yet. Michelle had a lot of friends, and her best friend, James, pretended to be her boyfriend. I didn't have any friends. I was snooty and mean. I still am the same girl, I can't change, and I won't let anyone know.
I get a rag, some face soap, and wash my makeup off. And as I do, an idea suddenly pops into my head. Maybe I can get y/n to be my 'friend' and introduce me to Usnavi. Why Usnavi? I have always thought he was adorable, and he's the only guy I seem to be interested in.
~Y/n's POV~
I sigh in awe, and feel satisfied as I scan the room. My new apartment is finally finished, and everything is set up. I hate how I am being controlled by Ashlie. I groan, and push away the thought. I take off my makeup, brush my teeth, and go to sleep.

The light shines in my bedroom through the blinds, and I squint my eyes, and stretch out my arms, letting out a yawn. I throw my legs over the side of my bed, and get up. I get ready, and head out for work. As I'm walking along the stone path, I see a familiar face.
"Heya," The voice says softly and carefully.
"Ashlie, uhm.... What do you need?" I question.
"Well, I was wondering if you could go to the mall with me today?"
"Why?"
"I wanna..." She pauses. "Get to know you..."
"Ok.." I say, afraid of refusing the offer.

I walk into the crowded mall, filled with many people shopping and eating, all hanging out with their friends and chatting happily. I sit down at a table, and check my phone. 7 missed calls from Usnavi, and 26 missed texts from him. I purse my lips, and read through them. He was asking me what was wrong, where I was, and why I wouldn't answer. I sigh, and keep reading. He apologized saying 'Please, whatever I did wrong, I'm sorry. Y/n, Please answer me..'. As I kept reading, I saw a text that was asking me to meet up with him at the mall at 7. Him and the Salon ladies, and Benny were all hanging out. What a coincidence. Great. I checked the time. It was 6:45. I sigh, and hope that Ashlie will be on time. That's the first time I've ever actually wanted to see her... Sorta.... We were supposed to meet up at 6:45.... I know Usnavi usually shows up early for these group events. I sigh, and scan the room, waiting anxiously for Ashlie. I take deep breaths, and try to calm myself. I am looking at the entrance, and hoping for Ashlie to walk in, but instead, Usnavi walks in. I am luckily wearing a hoodie, and put the hood up immediately, hiding my flushed face. I peek out of the hoodie a little, and make eye contact with him. His eyes widen, and he looks shocked. Then behind him, Ashlie walks in. I sigh in relief, and rush towards her.
"Ash!"
"N/n! (nick-name)" She giggles, and hugs me. I glance over at Usnavi, and he seems disappointed. After pulling back, Ashlie sees him too. She nudges me, and gestures over to him.
I walk up to him. "Usnavi, hey..." I mumble, then giggle nervously.
"Hey, Y/n... We need to talk.."
"Uhmm, I want you to meet Ashlie! She's my best friend!"
"Oh, uhm..." He pauses, then holds out his hand. "Nice to meet you."
"I..." I stutter, "If you'll excuse me for a moment..."
They nod, and continue their greeting.
