Prelude
'Click the sound of my camera. 'Scratch Scratch' the sound of my pencil on my notebook. My name is Ivy Rose Williams but my friends call me Ivy Rose. I'm 18 years old and I'm a reporter for the New York Times. How did I get in this position? Well it's a long story. Basically I won a writing contest and they hired me. I love my job...but I was missing something even more important...my life.
CHAPTER 1
I sat on my bed typing up my column for the paper. It's due Wednesday and today is Monday so I have to hurry. I was on my last paragraph when my phone rang. "ugh" I sighed and answered.
"Hello?"
"Hey girl!" My best friend Nicole squealed into the phone.
"What do you want? I'm busy typing!" I replied sounding a little more annoyed than what I was aiming for. She don't seem to notice thank God.
"I'm having a party tonight. Do you want to come? Maybe we can hook you up with a cute guy!"
She sounded super happy, but I could not go. Even though I was on the last paragraph I still had edit my paper and develop my pictures.
"I'm sorry I can't... I have my paper to finish." She sighed sounding disappointed .
"All right, but can't you do that tomorrow?" She had a little hope in her voice though.
"No sorry" I said.
She would understand I always having papers and stuff, plus I don't do guys yet. I don't know why, I guess I just don't like how they always have to spend time with you and stuff.
"Ok bye I have to go. I have have, um, party work to do." She broke the awkward silence but I heard something I have never heard before, sadness.
"What's wrong?" I asked her a little nervous about the answer. After a small amount of uncomfortable silences answered, "Well it's just that you never come to my parties or hang out with me any more." She raised her voice a little, " And you always have work to do" ( by this time she was yelling) " Ever since you got that stupid job at the newspaper company you have been avoiding me!" This was the answer I was afraid of.
"Wow I'm so sorry I did not know how much this meant to you I will..." I was cut off by her saying,
"You know what fine, I get it, you are to wrapped up in your adult life that you forgot that you still had a life as a teenager. Bye Ivy Rose it's over, if you want to forget me and ignore me... it's been TWO years and you have not been to ANY of my parties and you have only hung out with me like three or four times. Bye Ivy." And with that she hung up on me. She sounded like she had been crying. Did I really not spend that much time with her? surely it was more than that? I was upset as well and then I had had an idea... I would surprise her. I would help her set up and go to the party for. few hours, come back, and finish my paper. I saved my paper, grabbed my phone, threw on some shoes, got into my car, and started to drive to her house. She was my best friend and I had to go to the party after today's phone call. I never knew that was how she felt. I prayed that I could sort things out with her.
This is my first book and my first chapter. Sorry if it's not what you expected, I will try to do better on the rest of the book :)
