Another Battle

The bullets shatter the eerie air, as we reel down in lost despair, the fear is too much of a threat to care, so we say our last goodbyes.

I rise my head in the smokey gloom, my life will end shortly soon, i feel horrific impending doom, as i reload my gun.

The order sent not a minute to waste, we all run ahead with fearful haste, and i long for a warm embrace, to save me from this hell.

My breathings rapid and my heartbeat a stutter, i push my way through the bodies and clutter, and i listen to my peers mutter, "God save the innocent souls".

The fire licks my bare skin, i watch the cascade of iron and tin, i pray to god to forgive my sins, a god i don't believe in.

These men look at me; fear in their eye, they ask me how i let brave men die, i shake my head to contain a sigh, a sigh of acceptance.

Acceptance that death will lend me peace, for now i pray for life to cease, to protect the others or some at least, but free me from the horror.
