Chapter Nine

Danny couldn't help but wonder if he blew his only chance. His only hope of ever parting with the evil inside of him.

Maybe he should've tried harder to find a way out of the Walmart. Or to get people to believe what he was saying in his video.

 But he didn't.

That window of opportunity was behind him. And now his sinister self had the wheel.

It was discouraging. Everytime it seemed like Danny and Thomas were getting closer to escaping the Darkness, that chance would blow up in their faces.

With the police looking for them, maybe they'd be saved soon. But then again, why would they send a manhunt all the way out to the UK?

And honestly, Danny wasn't really sure he wanted to be found.

Not that he wanted to suffer through this any longer. He didn't, and he didn't wish it upon Thomas, either. But... the police coming along could put them all at risk.

What would Drew do if the police showed up?

 He'd be furious.

He'd think Danny and Thomas tipped them off. He might even hurt them.

Danny settled onto his cot, deep in thought. He wished he could go back.

He missed the days where the hardest thing he had to do was hot gluing a light bulb into an ice cream cone. Editing video footage. Writing songs. Putting out merch. Not struggling against an evil force.

But this time, it looked like the Darkness was reigning supreme again.

 It all felt so hopeless.

He closed his eyes, desperately hoping that he might wake up tomorrow to find out it was just a dream all along.

-----------------------------------------

Thomas sat up in his bed.

He saw Danny and Drew, both sound asleep. He was too restless. The struggle between good and evil within him was intense, and he felt trapped. The good part of him felt even more overcome and clouded than before.

He sensed there were sinister things at work in his mind. The Dark Sides, he guessed. They were strong. He still wasn't sure what exactly they represented, aside from Deceit, but he knew Virgil was right. They weren't messing around.

Soon enough, the part of him fighting to stay awake gave in. He grew weary, and he was emerged into a deep sleep.

-----------------------------------------

As soon as Thomas fell asleep, the Darkness kicked back in, in full force. And that meant the Dark Sides had full control. Instantly, Patton found himself teleported into a cell with Logan and Roman.

"Whoa," he said, blinking dizzily. "What just happened?"

"I think we're back under Drew's spell," Logan frowned, adjusting his glasses.

"Weren't we already?" Roman asked. "Drew got back yesterday."

"Yes, but... Thomas was still fighting it. He didn't sleep at all on the plane ride. Now that he's asleep, the spell has a chance to fully set in."

"Poor Thomas," Patton said. "He must be so scared."

After examining his new surroundings for a moment, Patton spotted one more figure, standing in the corner of the room. He quietly pointed him out to the others.

  "Who are you?" Roman demanded.

The figure slowly approached them, and stopped once he was in the light.

"Virgil?" Patton gasped. He looked so different.

He shook his head. "Guys... It's me."

They looked at him longer. It wasn't possible... Was it?

 "...Thomas?" Patton asked.
