"Who did you— who did you have it for?", Maya asked, curiosity getting the best of her. She couldn't believe that Farkle had had the same disease she was currently struggling with. And she really couldn't believe that he had just simply decided to nip in the bud the way he did.
"Lucas", Farkle admitted, sighing. "I had it for Lucas."
Maya blinked in surprise. "What?"
"I never wanted anyone to find out!", Farkle exclaimed. "Can we please just not talk about it?"
"No! We need to talk about why you did it!"
Farkle shook his head, placing his hands on his friend's shoulders. "Lucas doesn't like boys, okay? I did what I had to do."
Maya couldn't understand why Farkle would do that. "So you've just been, what, pretending this whole time?"
Farkle shrugged. "Guess so."
Maya shook her head. Did she really even know her friend at all? "I just — I just can't believe you would do that", she stammered out.
"It was for the best, Maya", the blue eyed boy frowned. "I don't wanna die yet. I haven't experienced so many things! I wouldn't change my mind if I could go back in time and change it."
Deep down, Maya knew that Farkle was right. He chose the best option. And, in the end, it was the path she would probably have to take too.
She felt sick.
