Chapter 1: KerSPLAT!

The bible says that at the end of days, everyone will be judged by god. Well, at least that's what I'm told. Personally I'm an atheist. But anyways. Hello there! I'm Claudia, and I used to be a Crime Queen before I decided, is this all really worth it? That's right, criminal to law abiding citizen! Now I'm a tattoo artist, living in an apartment complex in Chicago. It does get pretty boring quick, though, I miss the adventure!

I live with my cat Syphx, a giant Maine coon with a big attitude. He's my best friend! We both have the same likes; quiet, naps, tuna fish sandwiches, and being loved on. I used to have a Doberman named Deadpool, but he disappeared the day I got Sphyx.

I really like my apartment because it has a reused sort of look, with brick walls on the inside and out. Its very spacious, and the rent is cheap too!

Currently, I'm making taco salad for dinner, while Sphyx judges me from the counter.

"Mrow." he said.

"Oh yeah?" I replied.

"Mrow."

"Really?"

"Mrow."

"Ya don't say."

"Mrooooww." he jumped off the counter and padded off.

"Okay." I smiled, sprinkling some pepper in the taco meat.

This is what me and Sphyx do, we have conversations as if he were a human. It was cute, and if I don't talk to him, he claws at my shirt as if he were saying "hey, hey lady, I'm talk to you". He also gets pretty jealous when other guys handle me, then he chases them away and cuddles with me. I think its cute, though I've lost many boyfriends because of him. That's fine, though, I consider Sphyx as my only boyfriend, and he doesn't like me cheating on him. But even though he's big and mean, he's a big sweetheart on the inside, and he'd roll over for a belly rub any day.

I finished my taco salad and sat down on the couch, Sphyx sat on the arm rest.

"Okay, let's see what's on TV." I picked up the remote and flicked boredly through the channels. I blew the brown bangs out of my face,"This blows..."

Suddenly, Sphyx started growling and stared at the corner of the room.

"What's wrong, baby?" I asked.

He growled and hissed, running off. I shrugged, taking a bite of my taco salad.  I heard a thud outside my door and shouting.

I blinked and walked outside to see my neighbor arguing with her ex. Not again...I went over and tried to separate the two. Her ex turned on me and shoved me away, making me stumble back. The back of my legs hit the edge of the balcony, and I flipped backwards and time seemed to slow down...

This building is ten stories tall...

I came to this realization as my life flashed before my eyes, and I fell, and fell, and fell....

And fell...

Until...

KerSPLAT!

My senses cane back, well, only my sight. And I saw a shadow lingering in the background. It rippled, then disappeared. Everything else was gray and misty. I couldn't see anyone around, I couldn't hear, I couldn't feel. Am I dying...?

"Fell to your death huh? Ouch." a deep, demonic voice said.

I couldn't see anything, but then I blinked and saw a dark, hooded figured. He wore a long robe, cuffs around his wrists and black leather gloves. He also wore black skinny jeans and heavy looking black boots. In his hand he carried a long, slender scythe with a black hilt and silver, glinting blade. I couldn't show emotion, but I knew I felt terrified in front of this man.

"Claudia Wolfbear. You have a long history of crime. Started when you were a teen? Hm. Well, that'll buy you a reservation in hell for cheap!" the man said, then guwaffed,"And an atheist?! Table for one please!"

"Are you the grim reaper?" I asked, but my mouth wasn't moving, it was just my voice echoing out.

"Yes, I am actually. And it looks like its time to go." he pulled down his hood, revealing the skeleton head. He raised his hand and reached for my chest, but stopped, his palm hovering over my heart area. He stayed like that for a log time, until I got impatient.

"Well, aren't you gonna do it? Aren't you gonna condemn my soul to he-"

"You are really pretty." he complimented.

"....Uh..." I said,"Thank...thank you?"

"You know, I don't want you to go to hell." he confessed,"I'm gonna keep you."

"Wh-What...?"

He ignored me, and pulled up his hood, then placed both his hands on my heart, muttering something in Latin. I felt my breath returning, and I could feel everything again. The grim reaper pulled me to my feet. I gasped and looked around, the world becoming clearer to me again. There were several people grouped around us, police cars and an ambulance parked behind them. They didn't seem to notice me, though. They were looking behind me. I looked and saw paramedics covering my dead body with a tarp.

I gasped,"Am I..."

"Dead? Kind of. I cursed your soul with immortality." Death replied,"Now your only visible to immortal eyes. You'll no longer feel pain, age, or die."

Then he cracked his knuckles,"Now, to seal the deal."

I backed away,"Whoa man, I- MM-"

Before I could say anything else, Death pulled me into a freezing kiss. But I didn't feel cold, rotting skull teeth, I felt soft, cold lips. Strange. When I kissed him, I felt a searing pain in my neck, like something was burning into my skin. It became so unbearable, my vision became blotchy. I tried pushing him away, but he had a firm grip on my hips.

And then I passed out.
