"Here you go." Doyoung said as he handed Taeil his drink. "That'll be four thirty."
Taeil shoved his hands into his pockets as he searched for some money, eventually pulling out two dollars and five cents. "Crap..." Taeil mumbled to himself as he slid off his bag and searched through aggressively, looking for a few more dollars.
"I'm so sorry..." Taeil said as he stood up with a disappointed look on his face as he scratched his nape. "I don't have enough money, I'll just go" Taeil said as he zipped up his bag and slung it over his shoulder.
"Wait!" Doyoung blurted out without thinking as he held out his hand. Taeil turned to face him as Doyoung looked around and then picked up his drink. "It's okay, just take it anyways." Doyoung said as Taeil looked at him with surprise.
Doyoung was also surprised himself, he wouldn't normally let anyone off that easily even if they were missing even just a few cents, but something in his heart was telling him to do otherwise.
"A-Are you sure?" Taeil asked as he looked up at Doyoung. "Yes." Doyoung replied as he held out his drink.
"Th-Thank you..." Taeil said as he bowed and took the drink, handing Doyoung the only money he had, when Doyoung did something that was really unlike him.
"Keep the change." Doyoung said making Taeils eyes grow wide as he stared at him with confusion. "Um are you s-"
"Yes. Have it for free." Doyoung said as if he were unable to control the words that came out of his mouth. Why was he being so nice to this boy he barely even knew?
"Thank you Doyoung.." Taeil said as he sipped some of the drink down with a straw. Taeil closed his eyes as he let out a sigh and a small smile grew across his face. Doyoung grew curious as he watched him, Taeil was acting like this was his first time drinking something since he was born.
"When was the last time you've had something to drink?" Doyoung asked as he rested an arm on the counter.
"Um..." Taeil said as he began counting on his fingers. "A few hours..." Taeil mumbled as he looked up at Doyoung.
"How many hours?" Doyoung asked again as he furrowed his brows.
"Um..." Taeil said as he looked away from Doyoung uncomfortably.
"Okay you don't have to answer if you don't want to." Doyoung stated as he could tell that Taeil didn't want to talk about it. "Okay, thank you again for the drink it means a lot." Taeil said as he smiled. Doyoung smiled back as he nodded his head.
"Oh and I'm sorry for running away this morning, I just got... nervous." Taeil said as he looked away shyly.
"That's alright." Doyoung said as he chuckled lowly, smiling at Taeil and admiring his cuteness. With that, Taeil left the Starbucks and Doyoung's eyes never left his small cute frame as he did so, sighing when Taeil was eventually out of sight.
Doyoung worked a full shift and didn't get back to his apartment until late that night, making him grumpy and irritable as all he wanted to do now was sleep in his warm plush bed. Just as Doyoung entered his apartment he noticed something in the corner of his eye that caught his attention.
Doyoung turned around to see a note wedged in between the handles of the door behind him, with his name written in Korean on it. Doyoung approached the letter as he grew curious, tilting his head as he opened the letter and began to read it.
"I think you're really handsome."
A small smile grew across the purple haired boys face as his eyes kept rereading the message, making his heart flutter every time he did so.
Doyoung decided to write a letter back, just to see if he could make the messages keep coming. It did feel good to receive a compliment after all.
Doyoung got a piece of paper and slid it between the metal handles of the door with a "Thank you! I'm sure you're good looking too." written across the page.
The next morning the letter was gone, but there was no letter written back for him. Doyoung sighed as he looked around.
Maybe someone else had read the letter rather than whoever wrote it?
Suddenly, Doyoung turned to the elevators and noticed a piece of paper half buried into the soil of a plant. He smiled as he rushed over to the plant and brushed the dirt off the paper.
"Actually I'm not really who you imagine me to be... but thank you :)"
Doyoung smiled as he rushed back up to his room to get some paper and write a message back. This continued for about two months, Doyoung would search for a message on the bottom floor whenever he came and left his apartment, and quickly scribble one back on a sheet of paper lost in thoughts for the next few hours until he'd receive a new one.
Doyoung wondered what this anonymous person would look like. Would they have beautiful long hair that fell past their shoulders and blew in the wind? Would their eyes be so beautiful that he wouldn't be able to stop staring at them? He didn't know because they never revealed themselves.
Doyoung had tried waiting and hiding on the bottom floor to see who was opening and writing his letters, but he never got lucky.
As Doyoung and the anonymous writer continued writing to each other, him and Taeil would bump into each other every once in a while, chatting for a bit when they did. Doyoung learned more and more about Taeil every time they spoke, some were interesting things but some made his heart shatter.
Doyoung had found out that Taeil didn't have much money and that this apartment was actually a gift to him from a family member who had passed but was one of the few people who knew about his financial problems and wanted to help. Doyoung felt bad and would every so often leave Taeil a pumpkin spice latte in front of his room door with a sticky attached to it, saying "have a good day."
In those two months that Doyoung did so for Taeil he really didn't feel like himself. He changed completely and even thought about leaving his gang a few times. Doyoug felt as if his heart had grown a few sizes bigger, perhaps love had changed him?
He wasn't sure, but every night he would go to sleep with a smile on his face as he slowly and peacefully drifted off into his dream world.
