Just Like The Stars

Night fell across the kingdom, the stars adorning the sky in shapes and glimmers. The small princess gazed up at the open ceiling of the observatory. As much as she loved the stars, it hurt to see them as well. Chochi pressed her nose to her friend's cheek, surprised when a tear dripped onto her nose.

"Princess?" Annabelle turned to look toward the voice. Lucas was approaching slowly. Quickly, she wiped away the tears to hide the fact that she was silently crying.

"Are you alright, sweetheart?" The older boy kneeled beside her.

"Yeah, I'm fine!" Annabelle quickly pushed a smile to form on her lips. "The stars are out tonight. Aren't they pretty?"

"Y..Yeah... They are," Lucas could tell she was sad, but felt it might've been better to not ask. It didn't look like the young princess wanted to talk about it anyway.

"We should get to bed. Sofia asked me to find you," Lucas said. "She invited me to stay as well. Exciting, isn't it?"

"Really?" Annabelle beamed with excitement. "That's great!"

Her face dropped in worry after her smile.

"Princess Annabelle? What's wrong?" The guardian asked.

"Lucas...? Will you stay close by for awhile?" She looked up at the boy, with the expression of a little sister who just had a nightmare.

Lucas looked at the young royal in surprise. Then, he felt how she was feeling. She was afraid of something, and needed to feel secure.

"Of course, Princess. As long as you need me," Lucas took her hand and led her toward her room for bed time. "As long as the stars still shine, I promise."
