The Beginning

Yawning and stretching, I got up from my dirty blanket and pillow. I moved my light brown hair out of my face and grabbed my light green shirt, which matched my eyes, and black pants. My Sony headphones were playing some anime opening I didn't recognize. I look at my old, broken phone, it was around 8 a.m., and saw the song called Six Same Faces. (Author Note: watch Osomatsu-San ~v~)

Hm, I thought. I should watch this anime. I have Crunchyroll on my phone and watch anime for free. (#NotSponsored =v= okay I'll stop now)

I didn't sleep well again last night. For basically my whole life I've been a Yōkai. My species of Yōkai are labeled at Nukekubi, which translates to removable neck. Nukekubi's are people, usually women, who get affected by a curse, and it is currently incurable. A few minutes after I was born, the curse took its effect. My neck was, in a nutshell, gone. If you looked into where my neck was supposed to be, you would see nothing but a black emptiness. Another big problem with being a Nukekubi was that the Nukekubi species has a thirst for blood. My craving started when I turned 3 years old. I had lost control of my soul and my head comes off from my body and attacked a household family. My parents hadn't liked me since I was born and when they woke up to my face covered in blood, my mom, horrified, ran up to me and slapped me in the face. No one ended up finding out but my parents started treating me very differently. I was their first and only child because they were scared that something like this might happen again. They yelled at me when I made any mistake, big or small, and hit me sometimes too. I tried many things to try to fix this problem I had. I soon found out that if I play music while I sleep, I wouldn't wake up at night and drink blood. So afterward I found that out, I asked my parents for some money to buy headphones. They reluctantly agreed to buy them to stop my thirst for blood. Later I found out that it only worked except for the first day of every month.

A yell from downstairs snapped me out of remembering what happened.

"SUYA! GET CHUR ASS OUT HERE! I NEED YOU TO BUY GROCERIES FOR THE WEEK!"

"Coming mom.." I said flatly.

I put on my clothes and walked out from my room to the living room. My mom was smoking and sitting on the couch. My dad was asleep on the armchair, the TV running on Animal Planet. I looked at the long list and stack on money that my mom always laid out on the table when she told me to get the groceries. I grabbed them, went back to my room to get my wallet, to store the extra money she gave me because I could only work at a Haunted House and fit in, put my headphones back on, and left the house. The grocery store wasn't far and I liked to walk once and a while.

People walked past me without acknowledging my existence, probably because they couldn't see me. Yōkai are invisible to the human eye, unless the Yōkai wants the human to see them. This was caused many problems when my parents tried to get me out of the house by putting me in a school. They had brought me to an elementary school and when they wanted to sign me up, the teachers and principal said that they needed to have the child with them when applying to school. My mom told them that I was right here, but they just said that maybe she forgot me at home. For some reason, my parents are the only ones that can see me when I don't want anyone to see me. It was most likely because they are my parents. The grocery store was in sight. I walked in, quickly grabbed and paid for the groceries, and started walking home.
