she hates being sober

though, hate's a strong word

she drowns out the noise

and muffles what's heard

she's never quite hurting

though, never's a strong word

flaws follow us all

but don't chase after her

observantly seeing

what nobody can tell

eyes flicker and whisper

"I've smiled through hell"

We all know what will happen

the legacy foretold

tragically unavoidable

her choices won't let her live to be too old

"I would die to live again"

said with pride into the blank high school hall

it's her 6 word memoir

but what if it turns out to be true after all

black eyes and fishnets

bruised knuckles that burn

cigarettes that she'd forget

god knows that she'll never learn

she's not really unhappy

though, not's a strong word

scouting through the words everyone around

silently deciding if you're good enough for her

I love being with her

and, love's a strong word

nonchalant and self assured

I would die to live like her
