Ashton's POV-

I indeed had a pleasantly warm sleep. Besides the part where Frank woke me up with cold water. He was indeed so cruel to the point where I questioned his humanity. He did little things like spilling my food or ripping up my blanket I made that were much malicious than any bearing.
.

I was numb to everything by this point except on some days when his beating held a little more passion than before.

I crawled towards the hole, whispering slightly, hoping Luke would wake up.

Nevertheless, I secretly just wanted a Gobstopper. Well, I might've also whispered to see Luke...

It was mostly the Gobstoppers though....

"Ash?" Luke grumbled, in his morning voice.

My body shivered at the nickname because I had never had a nickname before maybe once mum used to call me 'bug'.

"Its me did I wake you? I could leave if you wanna go back to sleep..."

"No! I mean no, its fine I have to wake up early anyways." he composed himself coming closer to see his blue eye.

"Okay..."

He sighed, I could hear the tiredness in his voice.

Our heads snapped as we heard March yell out over the house, "I gonna go to the market, Luke!"

Luke looked back to me, "Don't worry she has a shift everyday at 6:00 at the market and also goes to the church to clean at 1:00."

I nodded, even though I knew he couldn't see.

Luke's eyes brightened and I heard shuffling as he stood up. "Give me a few minutes Ash I have to get dressed.",he mumbled his foot sorts fading in the distance.

He was probably going to school, surely older kids still went to school. When I was little I remember going to school and being told we were going to be there till we get old.

Luke's steps were the only thing heard in the house. Meaning, to my relief, Frank had gone to work.

"I have a great idea!", Luke yelled.

Luke's stomps faded and I was left in silence.

Did he leave me?

Yes.

No, he's probably just going to the restroom.

My mind was back to my surroundings so, I crawled back to my matress.

My ears perked as I heared the jiggling of the doorknob.

Did Frank not leave to work?

Fear overcame every other feeling in my body. I cowered down into a ball.

My whimpers were the only noise I could hear as I balled up, shaking.

When Frank left, it was my small break from his beatings.

I heard groans as the jiggling got louder. The chains and lock clacked together.

The door opened, it revealed a boy. He was tall and broad. The light that flooded in sorprender his structure giving him the look of an angel. Maybe he was my angel.

I didn't leave my position, my arms were still wrapped around my legs.

After all, he could be like Frank. Maybe a friend of his. Sometimes Frank would bring his friends and after a few drinks take turns slapping me around. I don't like to think about those days.

The boy walked slowly down the rotting, wooden steps. Each step as slow as the next.

They creaked slightly. He grimaced as this happened, his hand came up on reflex.

Instantly, I reacted on instinct and whimpered out what I always said in pleas, even if Frank ignored them,"Don't hurt me please."

The boy retracted his arm back to his body, slowly.

His face was covered with darkness, all I could see was his outline.

He just stood there as I buried my head in-between my head and knees.

"I wont hurt you...Ash." the boy spoke, I looked up, slowly.

Why is he calling me that?

Only Luke calls me that....

"Who are you? What do you want?" I croaked, my voice barely louder than a whisper.

"Its okay, its me, Luke."

My head snapped at the name.

Why was he down here? He shouldn't be here.

He could get in trouble with Frank. Isn't he afraid of Frank?

I am.

"Luke?" he nodded, coming closer towards the lightbulb hanging in the middle of the room, that flickers every once in a while.

Sure enough, my eyes traveled up to his, they were the blue eyes I can never mistake because of how safe they made me feel.

I unfolded and sat up, letting my legs fold, indian style.

Slowly, he crouched in front of me.

"C'mon I reckon you havent been outside in a while... don't worry they won't be back till 3:00 and I can ditch school."

I nodded, not thinking of the consequences of us getting caught. I hadn't been outside since I was around three si excitement quickly took over.

He moved his hands to pick me up causing me to flinch.

I had never been touched in any way where it wasn't mean to inflict pain.

He ignored the flinch and picked me up, just how my mum and dad used to in their pictures.

He walked up the stairs with my scrawny body clinging to his black shirt.

My eyes trailed everywhere. I hadn't been out in so long and now I was so confused.

He took me into this room it had a twin bed and a desk.

He laid me down on the bed. The comforter instanly swallowed me in.

He crouched down, the light now letting me see his features.

He was light skinned, had blonde hair, and also had the brightest blue eyes I have ever been exposed to. He was tall as can be, his facial features were sharp yet soft somehow.

My eyes then traveled behind him, towards a mirror.

My features were much, much different than I remembered.

I have curly hair, it was long, too.

My nose was different and my cheeks weren't as full as I remembered. My skin seemed very pale.

That was all I could see that wasn't caked in dirt or dust.

Luke stared at me as I looked around.

"What?"

"Nothing, you just look really cute."
