Chapter 8: Under the Bleacher Surprises and Best Friend Moments
Emmy’s POV:
By the middle of the day I thought I was going to go crazy, everyone was asking me about Dixon. Taylor had started shooing people away from me; she was like my own personal bodyguard. All the attention was just a bit too much, between the girls asking me about Dixon and the boys telling me how hot my outfit was and asking if I wanted to go out, I just wanted a break from it all.
Finally the bell rang for lunch and I was excited just for the simple fact that, that meant half my day was already done and I only had two more classes left and then cheerleading practice. “Emmy” Taylor snapped her fingers in front of my face “uh?” I asked, “I asked if you’re ready to head to lunch” she said again, “oh yeah sorry, let’s go” I said heading towards the lunch room. We managed to make it through the chaos of the cafeteria and grab lunch; luckily no one ever sat at our lunch table in the back so we didn’t have to worry about finding seats.
“I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been happier we sit by ourselves, what about you?” Taylor asked me, “Seriously, it’s just insane” she laughed and popped a fry in her mouth. “I say we go get ice cream after school, you deserve it, my little trooper you” she cooed at me, I rolled my eyes and flung a fry at her. “Hey you shouldn’t waste food like that” I closed my eyes and silently prayed that the person who just sat down next to me was not really there, that he was in fact a figment of my imagination.
I opened my eyes and turned my head to the left and saw Jason, “what do you want?” I asked turning in my chair so that I could face him dead on. His eyes lit up a bit and I noticed his gaze roamed over me, I mentally screamed ‘ewww!’ I noticed his eyes lingered on my stomach; I looked down and realized my belly ring was showing “oh grow up!” I snapped while covering my stomach with my hands. “Why should I ignore it when you flaunt it?” he asked leaning in closer to me, ugh he made my skin crawl “she’s clearly not flaunting it for you so why don’t you get lost Monroe” Taylor snapped at him.
He narrowed his eyes at her “mind your own business Crawford” he snapped back, “besides” he said turning his attention back to me “this outfit is just to delicious to be wasted on Maven, so what do you say Emmy why don’t you let me show you what a good guy I am” he leaned even closer to me. I leaned as far back as I could from him but he seemed to follow me “actually I think Taylor said it all, so why don’t you get up and leave” I told him trying to sound assertive.
He just laughed and grabbed my hand “you don’t really want me to leave do you Emmy, I know it” I ignored him and tried to pull my hand out of his. He opened his mouth to say something else but before he could a hand slammed down on his shoulder, “I believe my girl told you to leave” I let out a sigh of relieve at the sound of Dixon’s voice. Jason let go of my hand and stood up slowly facing Dixon and Trey. “I still don’t believe it, why would Trey let you date Emmy” Jason chuckled as if he had said something funny, “now why would I have an issue with my best friend and my sister dating?” Trey asked crossing his arms.
“I don’t think it’s any of his business” Dixon snapped, “fine I’m leaving but if I were you Maven, I would keep a close eye on her, she so sweet looking it might be hard for some of us to keep our distance” and with that he turned and walked away. Dixon looked extremely pissed off and without saying anything he grabbed my hand and pulled me along after him as he took off out of the cafeteria and down the hallway towards the gym.
I silently followed him because I had seen Dixon this mad before and when he gets this way you have to just let him be. He’s kind of scary and honestly I was a little scare but I trusted Dixon, I might not fully understand what was going on between the two of us and I might have considered us enemies at some point, but I had always trusted Dixon and I always would. Finally we made it to the gym and Dixon carefully pulled me under the bleachers and let go of my hand and started to pace.
