Ellie POV

"So...you're saying that your team of guys have used my blood and an infected's blood to create a vaccine? Have you tested it?" I ask. Clara is taking my vitals.

"Yes and no. We hope that we've finally created it and hope that it works. We have some individuals who have graciously agreed to test it out. We can't exactly use mice, our supplies don't allow it," She says, wrapping a blood pressure cuff around my arm.

"What if they're not a blood match from me or from the infected person?" I ask.

"Oh, the vaccine allows it to be universal. Especially since you're a universal donor. The serum and plasma can be used on anyone," She says, finishing up.

"Okay," I say, agreeing even though I don't quiet understand.

"Ellie, what we're doing here is the future. The fireflies were never able to create this and we have! People from all over the world will come to us for this and we have a real shot of going back to normal," She says.

"Normal? It'll take decades to clear out all the infected, immune or not," I say.

"Maybe not. If we can make a cure, maybe those who were infected don't have to be-"

"They're not in there anymore, they're gone," I say, a bit sternly.

"We don't know that for sure, Ellie. Maybe those who were only bitten in a non-life threatening way can come back from it. Unless they are already too far gone," She says.

"Like bloaters and clickers," I say.

"Exactly. I'm pretty sure they are gone once they grow the fungus outside of their body," Clara says to me, putting everything in a little basket.

"So you're saying there's a chance to maybe cure the runners, who haven't gone completely crazy yet?" I ask. Clara stops and takes a deep breath before continuing.

"Yes, there's a chance. It's a long shot, but it's a chance. Now, the vaccine we've created shouldn't make the subject infected from it. They'll need pure infected blood or to be bitten," she says, pausing. Finn walks in from the double doors on the other side of the room and walks over to us. "That's the hope,"

"They're here, Clara," Finn says, nodding to me as he walks away. Clara puts away the things from the basket and puts away a couple of other things as well before she comes back over to me.

"Ellie, I want you to watch your gift firsthand. We have ten subjects who will go through the process and I want you to watch the magic," She says, helping me down from the table I was sitting on.

I nod to her as she walks through the double doors and I follow her. We walk down a hallway before going into a room on the right of the hallway. Clara instructs me to sit in a row of chairs behind a wall of glass.

"One way glass, Ellie. They don't know you're here, only Finn and I know where you are," She says as she walks towards the door that goes into the other room. She puts on a yellow cover that wraps around her whole body along with a mask with an eye shield, feet covers, and gloves. She waves to me before walking into the room. The door hisses closed behind her. I watch as she walks in and nods to Finn and two other lab workers. The ten subjects are all sitting in a chair, restrained to it. There's seven men, one child, and one woman. I thought there was supposed to be ten. The woman seems to be crying, but the glass is a little smudgy to really be sure.

The speaker pops on, "Subject one, vaccine A," Says one of the lab workers who walks over to the first subject, injecting the vaccine. It looks a little painful, but once he pulls the needle out, the man relaxes.
