Some people have also noticed a big change in the lyrics of her songs. It was thought to have originated on a Brazilian fanpage. The theories have been circulating since 2003.
This theory claims that Lavigne began using a body double called Melissa. The theory is that at the beginning of her career Lavigne struggled with fame. At some point Avril is said to have died so Avril's record company replaced her with Melissa. The proof that people have found is that Lavigne always wore trousers whereas Melissa always wore dresses and skirts.

They also said that they noticed a difference between facial features. Lots of theorists have said that they think that Melissa have left clues about this in certain songs. In the song 'slipped away' there is a line that says 'the day you slipped away was the day I found it won't be the same.' There was even a publicity shot in which Lavigne had Melissa's name written on her hand!
