It's not that I didn't have any friends in Phoenix. Or even that my ex tried to rape me. My mom was moving to Jacksonville, Mississippi, with her abusive boyfriend. I didn't feel like moving in with him he was bad enough around the house when he visited my mother. I mean she claims to be happy but I can see the depression under her smile. So I decided it was time to spend some time with Harvey, my dad. Known as police Chief Dawn in Sporks, WA, a small town under constant cloud cover.

So that's how I got here in a police car, driving to my new house. Sporks is a small town population 606 we'll now I guess 607. So my grad class is going to be about 13 students, my guess. There is also a tribe reserve right outside of town the Quiluettes, I think. My dad is friends with a few of them.

As he drives my dad tries to start up a conversation and fails.

"So you've grown since I last saw you Becca."

"Well yeah dad the last time you saw me I was six."

We pull into the house. Dad helps me grab stuff out of the trunk and carries it up to my room. It looks exactly as I had left it. I wasn't a princesseey little girl I enjoyed more teenager styles like polka dots not princess crowns and castles and dolls. So paintings hang on the walls that me and Jesse Black made, Jesse is one of the boys that live on the reserve. It's signed Jesse Black and Rebecca Dawn.
