On arriving at school the first thing I heard, unfortunately, was the annoying bickering of Lucinda as she relentlessly argued with Markus who seemed uninterested in the entire situation. Markus inputted some sly remark once or twice in the argument but his remarks get Lucinda angrier and screaming to the top of her lungs.
I stood by the entrance of the school and stood listening to the couple as they had their disagreement. Markus looked at me once, took in my faded blue jeans, white top and target sandals before turning his head back to Lucinda and taking in more of her venom. Lucinda watched in my direction, seeing me standing there with a smile, and her anger seems to go beyond rage and into the murder range.
"What's so funny!" she screamed in my direction.
Taking that as my que I pushed myself off the wall and started walking away from Lucinda when she got a hold of my forearm and roughly pulled me back. My body swayed as she pulled me back; I stopped and glared at her, almost instantly she released my arm and step back. I walked off again, this time without a single finger laid on me.
Soon after I walked off from Lucinda and Markus the bell rang and I was being pushed in the direction of my classroom. I turned ready to give my glare to whoever was behind me but stopped short when my eyes met with my sister's blue eyes. She stared at me for only a second more before pushing me into my class and running off to conduct her own class.
I watched her as she walked away and looked away when someone bumped into my shoulder hard. I looked around for the person and pleasantly surprised to see Markus hastily walking towards the back seat that we once shared yesterday.
"Make him fall," I heard Angel's voice in my head as I rushed into the class and quickly sat next to Markus making sure my arm lightly touched his.
He didn't pull away but he did turn to look at me, I pretended I didn't notice and proceeded to throw my braids to the back of me and pull on my shirt revealing a little cleavage. As hard as steel Markus looked away and paid little mind to me and my actions. A full second passed before I pulled out my phone and started to play angry birds.
"Markus and Valetina, for skipping detention yesterday your detention was carried up to two days starting today." My teacher says as she walks into the class with her head down.
I didn't react as it wouldn't have been my first detention and Markus reacted the same.
Class went on with me playing games on my phone for a while then doing work to not get caught by the teacher all the while Markus didn't push my arm away from touching him. I closed my book and looked at him, taking in his blue polo shirt that seems to brighten his brown eyes and fitted perfectly with his khaki jeans.
"So are you guys broken up," I asked. He looks at me and carefully thinks about what he's going to say before answering me with an unbelievable amount of arrogance in his voice.
"None of your business."
"You see I know that but it is an interesting drama," I taunt.
Markus sucked his teeth before finally pulling his arm away from mine and focused all his attention to the front board.
Bringing up every bit of sympathy I had in my body I gently rested my hand on Markus' shoulder to bring a tiny bit of trust in him towards me, "I'm sorry if I was the cause of that argument, I don't mean to break you guys up."
Markus looked at my hand then at my face, my features soften... almost as if I was talking to a child. In response, his eyes soften and his muscle relaxed under my touch, he didn't trust me nor did he like me but my calm approach to him lead him to give a soft approach to me. It would have been that much more effective if I forced a few teardrops to come down my face.
