The sun rose and it was instantly hot. His eyes opened to bright sunlight and the sound of people outside. He heard Red speaking to someone. He couldn't make what she was saying. Suddenly he heard a voice he will never forget. That ranger spoke. He instantly hopped up and into his shirt. He looked for an escape to no avail. Is this what he deserved? For everything he had done in his life? To be killed like a wild animal just for the sport of it? He heard the boots on the wood. Hard, slow and determined.
"Butch," said the slow voice of the ranger. Butch turned around to him. The barrel of his gun pointed right at him. "What you doing out here? I watched you die."
"I didn't. Here I stand. Now what?" Butch said almost sarcastically. He put his hands up as the ranger walked closer.
"I'm fixin to take you back so you can hang for your crimes." He said as he put the barrel of gun right into his chest. "Or we can just end it right now. That's your choice." His ribs were still tender due to the crash but he kept his hands up.
"I'm unarmed ranger. Do what you want." Butch said. Tonto walked up behind the ranger with rope. He knew what was to come. They bound his hands and made ready to walk across the desert once again. Butch thought how to get out of this. He had no one that can help him now. He was on his own. He could flee when they made camp that night but to where. Here he was, tied to a horse on a death walk through the desert. Again. 'I suppose this is the easy part about my life. Any other time I'm running from them. Doing what I want, when I want to' Butch thought to himself. The sun was beginning to go down and tonto stopped.
"Here." He said, as he hit the sand.
"Why here?" The ranger asked.
"Here, Safe." Said the crazy Indian. The ranger got off his horse and looked for a way to tie Butch down. There were no trees or anything. He just kinda figured that keeping him tied to the horse was the best bet. Butch knew that was a mistake. He'd done this once or twice. Butch laid down and pretended to be exhausted. They gave him some water but that was it.
"You'll make it town on that just fine." The ranger said as he bit into some bread. When they finally had fallen to sleep Butch moved his hands to get the rope undone. He was surprised he had remembered that old trick. He hopped up on the horse and took off. The ranger awoke and immediately began firing rounds into the darkness. This started the horse more into a panic and he began running faster. Butch had no idea were he was going but he knew he was free finally. A while later he came upon an old abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. He stopped to check it out for food but it had none. The sun was starting to come up. Butch only knew of one safe place. The canyon. He knew he wasn't too far off but with no gun, no food, and no water it would only be a matter of time. His shoulder wound had ripped open again from the get away. It hurt but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. He started on his way and hoped he would run into someone carrying something that could help him.
