Ashton’s POV
When I finally made it to band practice at Luke’s house, what happened at Brewer’s started sinking in.
I woke up late since I forgot Mikey, Cal, Luke and I were supposed to practice a new song today. I had 20 minutes, give or take, to get to Luke’s house. I hurried up and threw on whatever clothes I could find and put on a beanie to cover up my awful bed head. Checking my phone, I now had 13 minutes to get to Luke’s. I went through all my cabinets before I realized I had nothing to eat and swore outloud.I figured I could stop at Brewer’s for a quick muffin and coffee since it was on the way anyway.
I swung open the door and the bells were chiming extremely loud, causing everyone to look at me, but I didn’t give a shit at that moment. 9 minutes left. I quickly ordered and there was a clear path to the door until a waitress came out of nowhere. I couldn’t stop in time and bumped into her, causing her to dump whatever she was carrying all over herself. GOOD ONE ASH.
“What the hell is your problem?!” I assume that was her and I looked up to check. She had a weird accent that I never really heard before. “Sorry, babe.” Was all I could mumble out before I took off out the door. I couldn’t be late again or they’d kill me. Okay not literally, but they’d be pretty damn mad. 3 minutes left. I picked up my running pace and finally made it to Luke’s house with no time to spare.
“Way to finally show up, doofus.” That was Mikey.
“I didn’t think you’d make it on time.” Thanks Cal.
“Anyway, let’s get started.” Luke was the most mature even though he was the youngest.
“You just wanna hurry up so you can call Grace.”
Michael’s remark caused Luke to start getting red.
“N-no I don’t.”
“Aww little Lukey has a crush.” I decided to put my two cents in.
“Shut up Ash! I don’t have a crush!”
I quickly dismissed the topic.
“So are we gonna get started or what?”
“Yeah!” They all said in unison.
We practiced a few songs, or a lot, I don’t know. I lost count because I was thinking the coffee situation over and over. I probably should’ve stayed to see if she was fine, but then I would’ve been late for practice. She seemed pretty mad by the tone of her voice. Ashton, you’re so stupid!
“Um, Ashton?” Luke’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
“Huh? What’s up?”
“You kinda stopped drumming a while ago.”
“What? I didn’t even notice.”
“YEAH YOU DOOFUS.” Michael decided to add a forehead flick in.
“Ouch what was that for?”
“I dunno, it looked fun.”
Luke gave me a worried look. I know I was going to tell him later because we go to each other every time we need to vent. He’s like my little brother, well so are Calum and Michael, but Luke especially.
Practice went just as well as usual, minus all the joking around.
Calum and Michael decided to stay at Luke’s while Luke and I went out for lunch – well maybe dinner, I don’t know what time it is.
“So Ash, what was with you earlier?”
“Oh. Well. Um. I was running late earlier as you know and I stopped at Brewer’s. While I was leaving, I ran into some waitress, which caused her to spill the drink all over her. She seemed pretty pissed, but I only mumbled a ‘sorry’ and I was just thinking about how I should’ve stayed to make sure she was okay and-”
“Okay Ash, I get it.” He started chuckling.
“So…?”
“So I think you should go back tomorrow and apologize properly.”
“I will, thanks Luke.”
“Anytime.”
So that’s what I did.
I walked into Brewer’s the next day, but no one was at the counter. Being the impatient person I am, I started ringing the bell on the counter.
“One minute!” I knew that was her voice because of the accent. I heard a faint “Damnit” come from the back room.
And there she was. She was beautiful with her mix of red and blonde hair, the combination was just... beautiful.
“Hello can I help yo--” She cut herself off and was staring at me and it started to make me nervous. I thought she was gonna yell at me.
I finally managed to get some words out. “I just wanted to apologize for yesterday. I was in a big rush and wasn’t really paying attention.”
She started biting her lip, which was adorable. “Umm it’s fine, don’t worry about it.”
I was starting to get really curious on where she’s from, but decided to not ask.
I started rocking on the bottom of my feet, trying to look cool. “So, I’ll see you around then.” And that’s when I took off out the door.
When I got outside, Mister Luke Hemmings was waiting for me, smiling.
“What are you so happy about?”
“So you know that girl right?”
“Yeah…”
“Well, she’s Grace’s cousin.”
“Seriously?”
“Yup. And she’s single.” He was wiggling his eyebrows.
“No Luke. Don’t get any ideas.” I know he would anyway.
“Oh, don’t worry. I won’t.” The look on his face told me otherwise.
