"This is a great idea, Lani," Amber said softly. "Thank you for your hospitality."
I turned to look her as she took my hand. "Anytime. Is there anything else I can do?"
Amber's entire entourage stood around the hot tub. The scent was calming, a blend of thyme and gardenia. She knelt, putting a steaming cup of tea with honey, hibiscus, thyme and juniper to his lips.
"Amber?" Dar called softly, looking at Jaeger.
"What?" she replied.
"I think," Dar said softly. "I think it would help if all the wolves came."
"You want us to stand with you?" I gasped softly.
"Go get your mate," Dar nodded. "I think it would help. They have strong life forces, Amber."
We gently lowered Jaeger into the tub with Gina who held him from behind. We gathered around the pool as the moon rose, and stood as the moon reached his height.
"Repeat with me, please." Dar said. "Ancient moons, lend your power. Bring us peace this very hour. We call upon your strength and might to bless your child this secret night." He repeated, and one by one, we learned and said it with him. Amber took a stone from her bag and so did Zuri, setting them on either side of Jaeger. As the chant grew faster, the stones began to glow brighter. Asa and Kyros held my hands, and I felt heat from them. Please, Jaeger, get well. Your sister needs you--
Suddenly, Dar's eyes glowed. He looked around, and then his eyes settled on me. "You."
I gasped, stepping back, but Asa and Kyros held me in place.
"Don't be afraid," Dar said. "Say your prayer."
I blinked.
"What were you thinking, sister?" Asa whispered.
I looked down at my feet. "Please, Jaeger, get well. Your sister needs you."
"You are not full wolf, yet your heart rings true," Dar frowned. "Take the stones, go into the pool, and lay them on our brother."
I stood wide-eyed.
"Leilani, mate of Kyros?"
I looked at Kyros. He squeezed my hand in reassurance. I walked right into the pool, just dropped in. Kyros was surprised. Asa just looked on. For some reason, Ian, Amber, Zuri and Dar smiled. I waded to where Jaeger was, and took the stones.
"Go on," Dar nodded. "Tell him."
I put the stones on his chest. "Jaeger, be well, your sister needs you. Your family needs you." I closed my eyes, feeling tears come to my eyes. "Ancient moons, lend your power. Bring us peace this very hour. We call upon your strength and might to bless your child this secret night."
The pool lit, reflecting the power of the stones and I felt the light and heat. I looked up at Gina, who was holding my hands. She was crying, but smiling. She could feel it, too. Jaeger began to groan, and Gina took her hands off mine to hold him tighter. It was then I realized that the circle had not stopped chanting. The moonlight began to fade, and the light of the stones did, also.
I gasped as Dar's hand touched my cheek. I looked up at his eyes, still white. "Whenever you call," he smiled gently, covering my tribe amulet. "I will come."
There was a flash of light and all went black.
