East of Eden -- A soft breeze ruffled my pink-purple fur. The stone sunder my paws scraped against my paw-pads. The soft glow of the lamp posts above my glass head shown down on me, the only source of light aside from the fading moonlight as it began to loose it's light. He's here, I can feel him. He'll be back, he promised.

We are guardians of the knowledge, the ones who balance out the day and night. Without him, day will never return. Each time the 12 hours ends, one of us will stand above the Tower and watch over the land as our given time of the 24 hours begins. Akolo takes the night and I, Neisha, take the day.

Each of our names mean something different, something that represents our roles and character. My name, Neisha, means gentle flower. I watch as the flowers blossom again as the sun returns. They always go into sleep when the moon appears, and wake when the sun rises over our land.

Akolo's name means guardian of the night. He watched as the owls hunt in the starry night and the bats take flight. They rise into the beautiful and glittery sky when the moon is dominate, and begin back to their caves and trees when I sit upon the Tower. Without each of us the cycle cannot continue.

No. Don't think like that. Day will return, and he will walk down the path to return to be guardian with me. We'll be together once again, he can't be gone . . .

What is that? Something is coming in the distance . . . a small group of wolf looking objects. Their ears are so- long. I squint, trying to make out the shapes best I can.

"Seems we have guests," I whisper to Akolo in my head. I get up, preparing for whatever is so come next.
