“Holy sh—”  Adrenaline pumped through my veins, cutting off my speech and adding to my speed.  Drawing on Nakoma’s hunter practice, I dodged the glimmering blade as it cut through the air inches from my heart, but I wasn’t able to completely avoid injury.  Sharp steel cut into my shoulder and red drops scattered across the floor.

 Instinctively, I reached up a hand to press against the wound.  That had been way too close.

Lynnette Cromwell’s arrangement with the demon hunters may be on hold, but her involvement with the supernatural is far from over.  Her sister Rachel has been found—only she's in a coma with no signs of ever waking.  To heal her, Lynnette will need the blood of a powerful vampire, but nothing comes for free.
