The night was storming.
Major, storming.
The sky was entirely over cast and Elena Gilbert found herself stumbling through an endless forest. Thunder boomed, lighting striked, and yet she sitll found herself stumbling through the woods without a care, but inside, she was terrified. But her feet kept going, and no matter what she thought, what she tried to do, she couldn't stop running. Her heart was pounding, and her cheeks were streaked with tears. She couldn't breathe, she couldn't even see, her eyes were so blurry. She kept going, tripping over loose stones, and fallen trees. Inside she knew she was on a mission, she knew that she had a destination, but her subconcious mind couldn't register that information at the moment. The woods were familiar, and she rememebered that this was not the first time she had been in the woods, however it was the first time, she ended up in a field. A beautiful field. The sky was instantly cleared, and the birds were singing. Pink flowers were flooding the lucious green hills and butterflies flapped their wings without a care. She glanced over her shoulder, the woods she had previously been running through was gone, only leaving a field of pink blossoms behind. When she turned back to her front, a figure stood in the distance. She furrowed her thin eyebrows, her heart was no longer pounding and her cheeks were dry. As she made her way towards the figure in the distance, her whole appearance changed. Her sweat shirt and torn jeans flowed from her, leaving behing a yellow sun dress and her hair was now up in a graceful bun. She looked down to see her shoes, gone. She walked bare foot in the soft grass for what felt like forever, until the figure became visible.
Stefan.
Her heart fluttered, her stomach twisted. She smiled sweetly and ran towards him, only to run into an invisible wall. The darned thing, kept her from her love. She pressed her hand against the wall, staring at him needingly. He was saying things now, things like. " Come to me, my Elena. " Again and again she tried, but each time amounted to nothing. She ground her teeth together and shook her head slowly. She pounded on the wall, he was smiling, like her struggles pleased her. But he seemed oblivious to her anger. He was the most handsome she had ever seen him, wearing just a light blue v-neck and jeans, no shoes like herself. He was stunning. It broke her fragile heart to see him in arms length, she could be with him, in his strong arms. He could protect her from the darkness, and he would. She trailed her fingers along the wall, letting out a desperate sigh. " Stefan. " She said softly. Her voice was desperate and her eyes filled with tears once again. She was staring at him, that is, until there was a loud crack of lighting behind her. She let out a gasp and spun around. The clouds behind her were filling the blue sky again, leaving the sky black and mournful. She furrowed her eyebrows, and started to walk towards the darkness, just curious as to what the hell was happening. But before she could go any further, another figure formed in the darkness.
Damon.
She stepped back and ran into the wall keeping her from her love. She breathed heavily and shook her head slowly. But now Damon was standing, completely still, his hands in his pockets, that smirk laid on his face like it was forzen there. He wore a black button down shirt, but of course, it was unbuttoned. His black jeans were ripped and he wore no shoes either. His raven black hair blew with the breeze of the wind, and his blue eyes lit up from the lightning surrounding him. He was whispering too. The same thing as Stefan. She shook her head slowly and suddenly felt the wall behind her go out. She fell back into the grass and put her hand over her heart, shaking her head quickly. " No. " She said to herself, both of them were coming closer, she hastily made her way to her feet and she breathed heavily. She closed her eyes and let the tears stream down her cheeks. She covered her ears and shook her head quickly. " PLEASE! " She shouted.
Silence.
She opened her eyes and looked to her left. Damon remained about ten feet from her, when she looked to her right, Stefan. The same distance from her. She looked at Stefan then at Damon, taking a deep breath. Then the both said the most terrifying words she had ever heard. " Choose. " She shook her head slowly, tears rolling down her cheeks more and more with the seconds that passed. She glanced up at Stefan, letting out a breath she hadn't even realized she had been holding. She was standing right on the line, of the singed, dead grass, and the lucious, moist green grass. She looked at Damon sadly, shook her head slowly and muttered, " I'm sorry. " She looked up at Stefan, took a deep breath.
And she was in his arms within seconds.
She had her arms tight around his neck, burrying her face into his shoulder, breathing in his scent. The smell was familiar to her, men's cologne and a camp fire with the smell of pine. She looked up at him and took a deep happy breath. He laid his hand on her warm cheek gently and she smiled happily, letting him kiss her with everything he had. Before she could even get into their embrace, the storm rolled on behind her, she turned around in shock, Stefan pulled her to keep her safe behind her and glared at his brother, who now had wind swirling around him, his gorgeous blue eyes were now black, and glowing. He glared at Elena then at Stefan, the green paradise she had found, was now destroyed, and Stefan was being pulled from her. She felt arms around her waist and she let out a cry. " STEFAN! " She held her hands out for him, but he was being pinned to the ground by some unknown force, and before she knew it, there was a stake in his chest. " NO! " She screamed, and began to sob, shaking hard. She was spun around and forced to look up at Damon. He caressed her cheek gently, and pulled her hair from it's pin. Her curls flowed down her back and over her shoulders. She was crying hard, her whole body shook with her sobs. She shook her head slowly, constantly repeating, " No, no no no. . " He shushed her, stroking her cheek gently. She glared up at him and grabbed his wrist tightly. A viscious growl escaped her lips, one she didn't even recognize as her own. She suddenly felt a sharp pang of pain in her mouth and she dropped to her knees. Crying out in pain as it felt like her soul was ripped from her chest. She wrapped her arms around her stomach, her beautiful dress was now black, and tattered. She felt fangs protrude from her gums and she looked up at Damon, panting in fear. He smirked down at her and got on his knees in front of her. " My, Elena. " He whispered, and pulled her into his arms. A darkness surrounded them, she let the tears roll, and he whispered in her ear, all the while, stroking her cheek and neck. " Welcome to the darkness, my darling. "
Elena gasped and sat up in bed, breathing heavily. Tears filled her eyes and she looked to her side instantly, seeing Stefan laying in bed beside her. She put a hand over her heart and breathed heavily, shaking her head slowly. She turned to Stefan and shook her head even more. She pulled her blankets to her chest and took deep breaths. She looked at him once more, laid back down, laid her head on his chest, once she was calm and she knew the man she was loved was perfectly safe in bed beside her, she fell asleep. Letting the darkness over take her, only this time, she didn't regret it.
