of his own home
Hand shaking
He took a breath
Forced calm

A small boy
A birthday surprise
Not knowing, his wish
His own daddy
Stood outside

A small boy, his heart's wish
And then when he turned
His boy, his love

A soldier's heart
Beat in his chest
No matter how he had come home
For his family, his country
He had proudly done his best
