We assembled along the table like we've done for the past two Friday nights. Most 17-year-olds party on Friday nights. They get wasted and sleep the next day away. However, for Justin, Emma, and I, Friday nights mean gathering around a table in my basement and discussing an issue much more important than under-age drinking.
"Who killed Karlie Hughes?" read the huge bulletin board in-front of us. That's right, we spend Friday's trying to solve a murder. Karlie was a classmate of mine. She wasn't exactly nice, but she was popular and in high school that's the only thing that matters. Karlie had lots of friends and more exes than I can count on two hands. She was a cheerleader and at the time of disappearance, was dating the star football player, Jamie Mitchell. A year and a half ago, Karlie went missing. After 3 months, there substantial evidence that Karlie was dead. No, not just dead. Murdered. The police questioned everyone that could have any possible ties to Karlie, but once they failed to come to any conclusions, the case went cold. My friends and I have always been interested in cold cases, but this...this is a real case, in our little town, in our little school. Everyone has said that if the police can't solve this case, we certainly can't. I know we can.
"Maybe we should question Jamie first, Gem," said Emma, "I mean they were together and I remember hearing that they weren't doing too well at the time.""Like she had just cheated on him or something, right?" Justin said, stuffing a bunch of fries in his mouth from the Mcdonald's we got earlier.
I decided they were right, so I took out my phone and called Jamie Mitchell.
"Hello?"
"Uh...hi, Jamie, this is Gemma Wise, from science class. I just have a quick question."
"Oh, hey, yeah I can answer a question."
"Okay, so my friends, Justin and Emma, and I are trying to solve Karlie Hughes's case and since you were dating at the time, we thought we'd question you first. How does Tuesday after school at Jen's Diner sound?"
"Sure, I guess."
"Okay, thank you! Bye." I hung up. "We're meeting Jamie Tuesday after school at Jen's." I told my friends.
Emma sighed, "Netflix?"
"Netflix." said Justin and I in perfect unison.
We didn't do much, but this is just the beginning. Once, things really start to come together, we'll be up for hours just piecing together the puzzle that is the case of Karlie Hughes.
