Forgotten. That's what i am. The people that once knew me have forgotten. Because I have trespassed into the forbidden domain. One where you can never escape. I could cry but it is useless. Tears don't work down here. It is an underwater world here you see.

I look up towards the light, where the rays can never penetrate through the depths to me. I sit down, and just like the constant trickle of a droplet of water, my memories swarm in my head. Pictures of happiness, images of sorrow, disappointment, even childhood days.

" Hey Alex. Let's make a promise." A faint smile on the girl's face. " What is it?" I looked at her featureless face. The word ' bored' could have been pasted on my face. " Let's not forget each other, okay? Mama says we are going away." That sentence got my attention. " What? How long? Why?" I started to shoot questions at my brown haired friend. " I don't know. Mama says we aren't coming back. Sorry Alex, but promise me this. Don't you forget me, alright?" She offered me her hand, extending to offer me her pinkie to make the sacred promise we five year old honour. It was a done deal.

" Promise! I dare you to forget me!" The musical reply was music to my aching years.

Ten years have passed by, and I haven't forgotten my promise to that girl. I may have forgotten her name, her face, but I can always recall her sweet smile and voice. This may sound crazy, but I can sometimes hear her. As a fourteen year old, I busied myself in the matters in school life- projects, homework, examinations, they were just a part and parcel of my daily life. Until I have discovered and enter the forbidden domain.

Have you heard of this legend? The one of an abyss? My grandmother Echo used to tell it to me when I was a little boy. Everything sometimes gets forgotten. And when it does, it gets sucked into this chasm. But then, over time, there were so many forgotten things, that it accumulated and it became an abyss, forever were its contents forgotten and lost for good. Promises that were broken, dreams that were forgotten. Even those intangible feelings went into the abyss.

I can still remember the day I got here. I was feeling dejected after blowing my exams. I was to be retained for the year. My dreams were dashed, my parents were going to be disappointed. And as I was crossing the street, I was so obsessed in my thoughts, I failed to notice the truck coming. I remember the blinding flare at my back, and that was the last thing I saw of my old world.

Two years, or a long rest so it may have seem to me after my death. I woke up in a dark place with water surrounding me. " Where am I?" I cry out, my voice echoing a reply to my question. A resounding boom was heard, drowning my echo.

" You are in the abyss boy."

The abyss? Great, what in the world have I gotten myself into? I must be dreaming, or suffering from a concussion. I try to pull myself up, to stop facing the bottom. It sure is a bottomless pit huh? I realise that my attempts were futile, clearly my anatomy has changed.

 An animal anatomy, maybe.

" Who are you? Why am I here?" I growled, my echo emphasising my fury.

" I am the Lost One. The fist person to be here. Like you, I was forgotten by the world, by my loved ones and acquaintances. This is such a fate we suffer from. A destiny we cannot alter."

Forgotten? Forgotten like the invisible voice? That is the insane reason why I am stuck here in this dark pit?

" Then I'll get out of this stink hole for someone to remember we." I started to wander around, my limbs swiftly cutting the water around me to move.

" Not so fast boy. Wait."

Wait for what? The sky to fall down onto this blasted place? What a bother, this is indeed a pain in the rear.

" If I don't make the initiative, certainly no one is going to remember me. Hey, I don't believe for a second that even my parents would forget about me. I can't be totally forgotten by everyone."

The happy father that gave me a pat on the back whenever I did good, excelled in exams. The mother that caressed me in my younger days, nursing me from a fever or a flu. Surely the father that praised me everyday, or the mother who bandaged my wounds would forget this son of theirs?

" Come then, if you still do not believe."

Even the voice sounded mournful. I followed him to a mirror, goodness knows how it got there. There it showed, in the turquoise water, my parents, babying a little kid, with brown hair similar to mine. They really did forget about me.

" Humans are wishy-washy beings boy. That is what differentiates us from them. From what separates the dead from us guardians. Do you not see this honour of being a guardian? I offer you this great honour, that you will surely accept. Be the guardian of this abyss, the protector of the lost. Will you accept? To embrace your destiny?"

Yes, I certainly do. No one else should be forgotten. My own parents who could raise me painstakingly for fifteen years, can just forget me.

" I do accept it. It is a deal."

" I knew you would accept your new destiny, Wasure. Come, your new fate awaits you, Wasure."

Wasure, 'forgotten' in Japanese. How fitting for one that has been forgotten. A new name, to commenmorate my new life.

" Let's go then voice, I'm sure we have tons of things to do."
