"congratulations to the graduating class of 2015!" boomed the principal, his graying hair flapping under the cheap air conditioner.
the entire senior class cheered uproariously, throwing our blue caps in the air and watching them rain down.
i ran over to my boyfriend, josh, and kissed him passionately, and he slung his arm around my shoulder.
"i can't believe high school is over," i whispered, looking back into the crowd of classmates.
i waved at a few friends, and leaned my head against josh's neck lacing our fingers together.
we had been dating since freshman year, when we were lab partners (how cliché, huh?).
"yeah, it feels like just yesterday we were making ice cream in mr. philip's chemistry class," he recounted, as we swung open the double doors leading to the parking lot.
we sat on the bench outside to wait for our parents as swarms of screaming kids flooded into the parking lot, diplomas clutched tightly in their clammy hands.
"nia!" squealed one of my friends, chloe lukasiak.
"hey chlo!" i responded, and tightly wrapped my arms around her.
chloe's hand was clutched tightly around that of an unfamiliar boy, and i stared at him inquisitively, waiting for an introduction.
the boy was tall and stocky, with green eyes and longish dark brown hair. he had olive colored skin and wore a blue tee with jeans.
i'm not gonna sugarcoat it, the guy was gorgeous.
"nia, this is adam, my cousin. well technically my dad's cousin's son, but anyway, he just moved here," chloe explained.
"hello," i greeted, shaking the boy's hand. "i'm nia and this is josh."
the corners of josh's mouth turned upright slightly, but he said nothing.
"so how do you like boring old pittsburgh?" i questioned, leaning against the school wall.
"if all the girls look like you, i think i'll just love it here," flirted adam, a smirk on his face.
i froze, and glanced down at josh, who's fists and teeth were tightly clenched, and if it was humanely possible for steam to shoot out from his ears, i'm sure that would be happening too.
i was afraid there was going to be a fight if josh was there any longer, so i blurted out, "hey, i see our parents!" and whisked him away without another word.
"i'd like to put that kid in his place, thinking he can just waltz in and flirt with my girlfriend," growled josh.
"he's just another douchebag that we can add to the list of douchebags who already live in this town," he murmured.
"he was just being nice..." i mumbled.
hey, what girl doesn't like a compliment every once in a while?
"cut him some slack, how was he supposed to know i had a boyfriend?"
we finally found my mom and dad, along with his sister, paige, and my brother, william.
william and paige had been good friends since 8th grade, being only a year younger than us.
"congrats guys!" paige yelled, and hugged us both around the middle.
paige stopped growing around age 13, and josh and i were both fairly tall, so she was short compared to us.
"great job nia," smiled my brother, and i ruffled his hair.
