Hey guys!! It’s Shreya again! Here’s chapter 4. Hope you like it!
Tyler pondered Zoe’s advice. She had told him to tell Troye, but to tell him to his face, as opposed to some crappy telephone conversation.
Troye had given Tyler his hotel and room number before he had left Australia, when Tyler and Troye actually texted and talked.
So Tyler told himself that it was time to man up and decided to go see Troye. He walked in the hotel, and got in the elevator, surprised at how nervous he was. He rubbed his hands along his khakis, in an effort to make them sweat less. His floral shirt was a perfect match with the pants, something he hoped Troye would notice. His quiff wasn’t doing too well today, but Tyler didn’t really care at the moment. He just wanted to see Troye.
After a few minutes of going the wrong way, he found Troye’s hotel room. He felt like turning back. Maybe he shouldn’t do this. Maybe Troye was better off without him. And what if Troye turned him down? Would they even be friends? He swallowed, and waited for his stomach to stop turning its insides out. When it didn’t he pushed down the panic that surged through him and knocked on the door.
-------------
Troye heard knocking outside his hotel door. Who could it be? It was late afternoon now, and Andrew was just about to go to Starbucks to get them both something. Troye hoped it was someone with a wrong room number, because he really wanted a coffee.
Unfortunately, it was Tyler.
Seeing Tyler in person for the first time in a few months was enough to make Troye want to fling himself at Tyler with all his might. I’ve never really noticed how handsome Tyler is, Troye thought, then felt disgusted. He had a boyfriend. Still, he couldn’t help but notice that Tyler’s khakis and purple and blue flowered shirt went perfectly with his mint hair. In a shaky voice, he asked, “W-why are you here?”
-----------------
Tyler wasn’t sure how to respond. Well, he was here because of his email, obviously.
“Well, I saw that email and video you sent me,” Tyler said, laughing, “and I just wanted to say that it was great.” Tyler felt so much better after seeing that Troye appeared not to mad at him for his two week delay of replying. He failed to notice, however, that Troye hadn’t let him in and was talking at the door, something that Troye would never have done.
“This late?” asked Troye. Tyler was surprised to see that Troye was not, in fact, happy. He face was a mixture of confusion, sadness and anger. Tyler understood, of course, but once he explained himself, he was sure that Troye would understand him. This was shaping out to be an amazing day, Tyler thought, growing more and more excited. He just had to find out if Troye still liked him.
If only Tyler knew what was coming next.
-----------------
Troye didn’t get why now Tyler had come, looking for him. They had not talked for a few weeks, and Troye felt he was right to assume that it was Tyler’s fault. Troye didn’t want to talk to Tyler, in case Tyler didn’t share the same feelings. Troye had had his fair share of awkward exchanges already. He also felt a little devastated. What if Tyler liked him too? Troye had a boyfriend. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to give up Andrew for Tyler.
----------------
Tyler's happiness was short lived. A man appeared behind Troye, and Tyler tried to figure out who he was. He was attractive, Tyler noted, but still didn’t understand. He was way too over the moon to realize the truth of the situation. You know those days where you are so excited and happy to spend the day with your best friend, when she suddenly cancels because her parents are making her study for some test? That’s the feeling Tyler got.
“This is my boyfriend,” said Troye, his mouth in a tight line. “His name is Andrew.” Troye forced his face into a smile.
Tyler was frozen still. He tried to take in the scene around him, unable to move. All he could here was the word boyfriend. Boyfriend. Boyfriend. Boyfriend.
Tyler looked away as Andrew pecked Troye on the lips. “I’m going to Starbucks, babe,” he said. “Whaddya want?”
“What I always have,” Troye replied. “We’ve been to Starbucks like ten times together!” He laughed.
“You wanna tell me what the usual is so I don’t get the wrong thing?
Since when did Andrew not know his Starbucks order? He’d told him a ton of times, Troye was sure. Maybe Andrew didn’t know as much about him as he thought. Before Troye could speak, Tyler did.
“He’ll have a Nutella Frap.” Tyler responded, shocked that this boyfriend had no idea of Troye’s order. He wondered if Andrew even knew about his youtube channel, or anything about Troye.
Tyler decided to find out. “Don’t you know he loves Nutella? He only mentions it like every second in his youtube videos.”
Andrew looked at Tyler for the first time, grimaced, then looked back at Troye. “Youtube videos? You never told me that. That’s cool, dude, but isn’t it just making videos? What’s so hard about it?”
Tyler was totally shocked at the words coming out of Andrew’s mouth. He couldn’t believe that Troye had picked this guy out of all the other fish in the sea.
Troye laughed and pushed Andrew slightly. “You know I have a youtube channel! You told me you watch my videos all the time!”
To Tyler, it was obvious that Andrew was lying when he said “I’m joking! I watch your videos every day.”
Troye laughed, but Tyler could tell that there was a certain sadness in his eyes, like he had finally realized that Andrew was not such a good boyfriend after all.
--------------
Troye laughed, hoping Tyler wouldn’t notice that he was not really happy. Tyler was the one person that knew him better than anyone else, excluding his dad.
Troye hadn’t realized how much Andrew really knew him. Not much, the voice in his brain told him, but he liked Andrew, he really did.
Troye tried to escape the inevitable question, but as soon as Andew was gone, Tyler asked “So how come you’re with him?”
Troye just sighed. “I like him, Tyler. And he doesn’t take two weeks to answer his best friend’s email.” Troye made air quotes around the best friends, leaving the words hanging in the air between the two.
“Troye! I have a reason--”
Troye cut him off. “Tyler, you need to go. You can’t come back into my life after a few weeks, and then make fun of my boyfriend.” His voice was firm but apologetic, like he was hoping for a reason for Tyler to stay.
Tyler nodded.
He bit back the tears that was starting to form in his eyes and made his way down the driveway. When he was in his car, the tears came a full force, pulling him under and leaving him gasping for breath. As he pulled away, he saw Troye waving to him, and to Tyler, it looked like Troye’s cheeks were stained with tears too.
And to Tyler, something about Troye crying over a simple fight about a boyfriend seemed a little out of place.
Was this overly dramatic? I kinda feel like it was. I don’t know. Maybe not. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE vote and comment because it would mean so so much.
Have a great day!
