I've just arrived at the home, and so far it's hell! I'm used to it though, people staring at you like you're an alien, taking your stuff, the really mean bitchy girls making snide comments. I pretend I don't care, I even yawn, but deep down I wish that I could make a friend in one of these retched places. You see, when I was little, my mum passed away. I didn't have a dad, so I didn't give a stuff about him, but me and my mum were dead close. She had this amazing platinum blonde, waist length hair that I used to brush so she could swish it at a slight turn of her head. She was beautiful. She'd dress up for nights out and she could attract any of the boys, but she always stuck by me. But then she got sick. She stopped going on nights out and spent most of her time at hospital. Then all her lovely Radiant hair came tumbling out until she was bald. And then she- well she left. I do miss her so. I was learning the time at school when this happened, and I remembered crying because it hurt, so to ths day I still have difficulties with the time. My name is Honey DeMortez. But don't be fooled by my sugary sweet name. I suppose I was a shy sweet girl before... but that's all changed. I don't bully, but I make sure I don't get teased. I actually thought this home was going to be all right, until they asked to cut my hair off! It's the only thing that really reminds me of my mum. They did it all sweet and patronizing like all social workers.

"Honey? can I have a word with you poppet?" Shelly shrilled in her annoying tones. See what I mean? pathetic. I walked over to her office, which in all fairness was quite nice. I sat down  on the smooth leather arm chair. She plastered this sugary smile showing a lot of her teeth, like a shark.

"Now, I'd firstly like to welcome you to our home, and I hope it was the right descision for you" well, I don't really think I made the descision, more all the social workers.

"Now, we know life was rough in the last home" Tell me about it! Elkwood was not exactly a little slice of heaven. It was infested and all the children had fleas and nits and everyone at school would snigger and say stuff like:

"Don't talk to her, she's an Elkwood Kid"

"Ewww, she'll give us nits"

"I heard Elkwood is where all the druggies kids end up"

They all had a way of making the word Elkwood sound like a bit of muck you just stepped in. Well, some of it's true. Like the nits part.

"We thought it would be easier to take caution and cut some of your hair off, so there wil be no nits"

My heart stopped a beat. What right did she have, telling me how I should look?

"Well how about I do us all a favour and cut your head off?!" I shrieked.

"Now Honey, calm dow-"

"No I will not calm down  you old hag! It's not my fault I've got nits, I didn't invite them on a luxury spa weekend, did I?" I heard a few sniggers from behind the oak door. Typical! I've only been here five minutes and already kids are spying on me! I stormed out of the room and ran to my unpacked room. But I wasn't alone. A beautiful girl with silky black bunches blinked back at me. I didn't know why, but all my anger melted away. Instead I was mesmerised by this shy nimp like creature staring at me. She was Japanese looking, wearing a kimono and had these wonderful cherry bobbles in her hair.

"Oh, uhh sorry" I stammered "Can I help you?"

"Oh, sorry!" she said, blushing "I was looking at your photo, is this your mum?"

"Yeah"  I said softly, tracing the ornate frame with my long finger nails "I remember this photo, we were on a day out at a festival, and they had these wonderful Thai dancers"

"Oh wow, that sounds amazing" she looked down "my mum would have loved that, but she's gone now"

"you too?" I gasped "my mum passed away when I was seven"

"that's awful" she looked down and stroked hersilk kimono while I looked at it enviously "This was my mothers kimono I really miss her"

"It's ok" I said patting her sympathetically. Normally I would have felt awkward, but she made me feel normal for once, finally someone I could relate to!

"What's your name? and how old are you?" I asked her

"I'm Sakura and I'm 13" she said, smoothing her lovely hair

"wow! I'm 13 as well, I was born on the 10 of september"

"really? me too! what's your name then?"

"I'm Honey"

"Wow, what a sweet name!"

She didn't know the half of it.
