‘I wish I hadn’t yelled’ the boy thought as he sat in his room listening to the machines around him and the faint sound of his father leaving in the car. ‘You could barely hear my yelling over the machines anyways, but still. I’m sorry dad.’ Outside his room came a faint tapping, one that should have been too faint to hear. He opened his eyes, his head spinning as he stared at the painted stars on his walls and ceiling. A tapping came again, and curious the boy stood and walked to his door, opening it and peering out. Pale skin of a leg disappeared around the corner leading to the living room. Curious, he went to see what it was, the faint tapping still heard, he couldn’t identify it. But why was it louder than the machines that buzzed and whirred around his home? There’s a girl in his living room facing a different direction, her long multicolored scarf swirling around her. A faint tapping on the floor, in the dim light of the machines he could see scarlet drops of blood dripping from her mouth. Her head turned and her odd blue eyes stared at him, he yelled in surprise, she brought a finger to her sewn lips. And the machines turned off. The house plunged into complete darkness and the boy backed up. He bumped into something.

Hush now friends the time draws near

The near silent voice whispered in his ear something wrapping around his neck and constricting his windpipe.

Let the silence consume you, and hear those who can’t be heard.

Grabbing on the fabric around his neck he desperately pulled at it the silence of the house making his ears ring. Finally he ripped free and scrambled blindly to where he thought was the window, fumbling he pulled aside the curtains. He couldn’t see outside, the whole block was pitch black the power must have gone out for them too; all the houses beneath his apartment complex must be facing the same outage. Only thing he could make out were the stars, white against black. Turning once again he yelled out to attacker.

Hush now friends your time is slipping fast

Was his only answer, the fabric from earlier wrapped around his wrists and legs jerking him to the ground and dragging him along. He fought and struggled against the force to no avail.

Give into your obsession and let it consume you like a trap.

The voice didn’t make sense, what was it talking about?! He was pulled into what must be the bathroom, he could feel the tiles beneath him. The fabric pulled him up and into the bathtub, he tried to scramble up but it held him fast wrapping further around his body and tighten until he could not move.

Hush now friends there’s no time to spare

Something periced his lips and he yelled in pain, it was a needle and thread, someone was sewing his lips shut! The sewing continued at an agonizing slow pace, he was aware of the thread as it moved beneath his skin and the low dripping noise of the blood from his mouth as it fell into the tub.

Murder is a fun little game if no one is aware, so take care.

His bonds began to loosen as the thread was tightened and neatly knotted in place, the boy could barely open his lips. The bonds came loose and something was pressed into his hand.

Hush now friends the time has come

It felt like a rope, warm blood trickled down his lips, something was placed gently around his neck with such love and care. The darkness seemed to burrow deep into his head, and whatever was around his neck began to lead him along. Blindly he stood, stumbling as quietly as could out of the bathroom, the thing around his neck leading him like a leash.

Silence is here and the patterns are quiet, no one knows where it came from.

He nodded absentmindedly listening to the words and letting them roll around in his head. He blinked and suddenly he could see stars, painted around the blackness. Relaxing he let himself be lead deftly around objects, somewhere ahead was wind and it moved through him.

Hush now friends a corpse should not speak

The rope was taken from the boys hand and the thing around his neck led him further, urged gently to take a step up he did so. His feet balancing him on the edge of total darkness and stars. Stars. That’s all he could see, endless twinkling white lights against pure black. What a lovely pattern in this void.

Listen to the strong and obey the silent patterns, pity is for the weak.

Gentle hands pressed into his back, he leaned into them, looking up at the endless sky of stars. The hands pushed gently and he fell into the darkness, eyes still on the stars. Until the thing around his neck pulled fast and his body swung in the wind.

Hush now friends you no longer exist.

From the window came a figure, looking sadly down at the person who was now hung from his apartment window. Her long multicolored scarf whipping about in the wind as she gazed downwards, her odd blue eyes sad. Blood dripping down from her sewn lips falling far down into the blackened streets below. She melted into shadow, and the lights turned on, illuminating the body of a boy who had hung himself.
