W A R - K U R O O T E T S U R O U
A N G S T
A cramped room with a metallic smell was tinted with red light. A woman gently leaned her head back against the rattling wall, the grip on her gun tightening. Taking a deep breath, she looked forward and narrowed her eyes. Her resolve was now solid.
She knew there was a high chance she wouldn't survive this, but she had to do it. For the sake of those who've died, and those who may come next.
She smiles bitterly as she remembers what her life used to be like before World War III.
She remembers taking it easy in high school before the bombing. She could tell you her morning in exact detail. The morning it all began.
She was walking to school with her two childhood friends. One of them being her long time crush. They talked and joked about how one of their friends said 'the earth was a cup'. They made it to school just fine, but the moment second period started, an explosion went off in the first year wing, killing the youngest of their trio.
Both were thrust into a dark world of depression. Somehow, using each other, the two remaining were able to live again. Sure, the next few years were absolute hell, but they had each other. She was able to survive because she had him by her side. She managed to smile with him through their year of boot camp, and always fought with each other side by side during the war. They were inseparable. Her feelings for him grew even stronger. However, she never noticed him giving her the same looks she gave. She was planning on confessing after this mission ended.
The plane jerked, snapping her out of her thoughts. A sliver of light broke through the dark room, followed by distant explosions and screams. She looked at the black-haired male next to her.
"As usual: I've got your back, Kuroo."
He gives her a smirk.
"Same goes for me, Y/n."
They bump fists before the voice of their commander echoes through the aircraft.
"GO GO GO!"
They separate and quickly sprint to the opened ledge. Without any hint of hesitation, they jump.
---------------------------
Bombs went off around them, but they kept on running. Bullets started flying. Still, they continued on.
Suddenly, a piece of upturned rubble caught Y/n's eye. She quickly jumped behind it, dragging Kuroo with her. Just then, a barrage of bullets ripped through the area.
They both panted with their backs against the cold wall of concrete. As soon as the bullets slowed down, they looked at each other. They both gave a slight nod before bolting out from each side.
Y/n kneeled down and took aim as Kuroo ran to the side for a better position. Shots were fired, and by the end of it, only Kuroo and Y/n remained upright.
After making sure that their surroundings were clear, they looked back at each other, assessing the other for wounds. They both smiled as no wounds were visible. What Kuroo didn't see, however, was what Y/n was covering with her arm.
When he turned around to continue forward, she brought her hand in front of her face. It was coated in warm red liquid. She slowly brought it back down to put pressure on her wound and sighed. She knew she wasn't going to make it out of this one alive.
She dragged herself to her feet, stumbling a bit before running to catch up to Kuroo.
She couldn't let this mission fail. This was the final stretch. The battle that would end the war. They were to sneak into the headquarters of the Four Nation Republic and blow it to bits, destroying their enemies center of command. There was no way she was going to let herself be the reason behind another four years of war.
