When She Cries

~When She Cries...~

-Little girl terrified

She'd leave her room if only bruises would heal-

Dyed red bangs. Long brown hair. Shocking blue eyes, filled with tears.

She lay on her bed, keeping her gaze on her pillow. She was frightened. No.... She was terrified. Of everything. Of the haters... And the bullies...

-A home is no place to hide

Her heart is breaking from the pain that she feels-

At home. What an awful place, when you view your home as a place to hide.

But even then... The comments follow her home...

A pain in her chest made tears prick at her eyelids.

-Everyday's...

The same.

She fights...

To find her way

She hurts,

She breaks,

She hides,

And tries to pray-

A thought ran through her head.

-She wonders

'Why?!'-

A strangled sob came from her lips.

-Does anyone ever hear her when she cries?-

-Today she's turning sixteen

Everyone's singing but she can't seem to smile-

It was really no wonder. Why smile... She didn't feel happy.

-They never get past arm's length

How could they act like everything is alright?-

She looked at all the smiles. They seemed so fake. So... So unusually fake...

-Pulling down her long sleeves

To cover all the memories the scars leave-

Once it was over, she headed upstairs and collapsed on her bed, digging her face into her arms.

She opened her mouth to mumble something.

-She says, "Maybe making me bleed

Could be the answer to wash the slate clean-

She burst into tears.

-Everyday's...

The same.

She fights...

To find her way

She hurts,

She breaks,

She hides,

And tries to pray-

Once again, that thought ran through her head.

-She wonders

'Why?!'-

Sobs racked her body.

-Does anyone ever hear her when she cries?-

More hating.

It happened everyday.

She didn't understand.

She also couldn't handle it anymore.

Her radio started playing a song and she almost turned it off, but stopped as she heard the first line.

Once it reached the bridge, she was feeling even worse.

-This is the dark before the dawn

The storm before the peace

Don't be afraid

The seasons change

And God is watching over you...

He hears you...-

Her eyes opened wide. All the good things came rushing back. The good things, this time. Her friends, her fans, the conversations she had with people who she didn't know a year ago.

-Everyday's...

The same.

She fights...

To find her way

She hurts,

She breaks,

She hides,

And tries to pray-

There was that chorus again... But this time it seemed reassuring. It made her feel strong.

-She'll be just fine

'Cause I know He hears her when she cries-

She stood up and walked out. She had to get to some nature. She wanted to think in the branches of a tree, surrounded by the songs of birds and the rustling of leaves.

-Everyday's...

The same.

She fights...

To find her way

She hurts,

She breaks,

She hides,

And tries to pray-

Once at the park, she looked up at the gorgeous leaves. The pattern of it left dollops of sunlight on her face.

-She'll be just fine

'Cause I know He hears her when she cries-

She wiped her eyes and smiled, a delicate, beautiful one.

-She'll be just fine

'Cause I know He hears her....-

After thinking it over, she gave a small laugh.

A small tear, this one happy, slid down her face.

-When she cries...-
