Ellis eyed the older man as he sleeps on the cold, hard ground. It was his turn to keep watch in case any of the infected break into the safehouse, but there were none to be seen. He looked back at Nick and noticed he was up. "Hey killer." Nick groaned as he struggled to stand on his feet and walked over to the boy.
"Hey Nick. Couldn't sleep?" Ellis smiled. He scoots over for Nick to sit beside him. Nick slides down the wall and sits shoulder to shoulder alongside the younger male.I have to cross entire oceans when..
"No.." Nick smooths out the wrinkles of his white suit, avoiding eye contact with Ellis. "Thoughts can be loud sometimes.." he sighed. Ellis raised a brow. He knows Nick wasn't the type to be open about his feelings so he let it aside for now, fearing that he might get angry if he asked what was wrong.
I want a moment of [his] time.
"Ya wanna go for a swim on the beach? Haven't seen one o' them zombies nearby. Y'know one time me an' my buddy Keith went swimmin' in this pond an' there was some Japanese fish an' one of em swam into Keith's shorts so.." Ellis went on with his story. Nick couldn't help but stare at the smaller man. His wavy brown hair under that stupid trucker hat, his jade green eyes, and his smile, that damn smile. It was the most beautiful he has ever seen.
[He] never wants to fall in love again..
"Uhh, Nick?" Ellis looked at him, both surprised and confused. Nick immediately shook his thoughts away. "What?"
"You didn't cut me off this time. Normally you'd tell me ta shut up." The boy laughed. "Ya good, man?" Nick gave a low chuckle and stood up. "Yeah, yeah. I'm fine. Let's just stand by the ocean. I could use some fresh air right about now." Ellis simply nodded, jumping to his feet and headed outside with Nick following him...and every kiss would be a crime.
Ellis looked over his shoulder. Nick seemed to be in deep thought. It made him worry. What could he possibly think about? Maybe he thought about his past life. Family troubles, perhaps his ex wife? He hopes and prays it's not about a zombie. He didn't want to think about it, so he pushed that thought away.
The young man cared deeply for the ex con-man. Even though Nick can be an ass sometimes, he can also be very gentle and caring towards Ellis. It made him happy knowing that Nick didn't hate him.Maybe [he] suffered for the thrill of it all..
They felt the breeze of the steady, dark ocean. Ellis had to ask what the matter was. He couldn't let Nick be bottled up in his emotions. "Y'know Nick. I care a whole lot 'bout ya. I don' like it when you're keepin' thing's to yourself. You're my best friend Nick. Ya can tell me anythin'! You know I listen." Nick smiled weakly. It's no surprise that Ellis was this kind and generous. Unlike Nick, he could never say anything bad about a person. To his surprise, Ellis walked toward him and gave him a reassuring hug.
..but I know [he's] thinking when [he] falls.
Ellis hoped the hug will ease any stress he could be feeling. He hoped the older man will feel like he's not alone and that Ellis will always, always be there for him.
"Ellis.." Nick finally spoke. He looked afraid. Ellis has never seen him so terrified before. It was concerning.
Before the ex con-man could say anything else, he pressed his lips against the boy's.I want to touch the northern lights.
Ellis did not push him away or pull away, instead he returned the kiss and wrapped his arms around the taller man's neck. The two share a passionate kiss until they broke off.
"El?" Nick's cheeks became flushed. He didn't expect the young male to kiss back. Ellis simply giggled.
"I didn't think you'd feel the same way either, Nick!"
"Heh, yeah. I was afraid you were gonna punch me or something." He awkwardly scratched the back of his neck. "I've been having these feelings for a while now. I didn't want to say anything and I didn't want to accept it. But every time I try to repress what I felt, it drove me nuts, kid. I couldn't sleep and I was afraid it'll screw with our friendship. Didn't wanna lose you, overalls." 'Overalls' Ellis hasn't heard that nickname in a while. He admits that he likes it when he calls him that. Actually, he likes it when he calls him every nickname he's given him. Except 'ass-hat', he didn't like that very much.
"So that's why you've been actin' weird? Hell, I thought you'd been bitten by them son's o' bitches. This whole time I've been worried sick 'bout ya!" The older man chuckled at the comment. He felt so lucky to have Ellis beside him.We could leave the world behind.
The younger male wrapped his arms around the elder's waist as they sway under the pale moonlight. Both Ellis and Nick stare into each other's eyes, gazing lovingly like they've seen stars or lights.
I want to know what it's like..
"Hey, Nick? What'd'ya think is gonna happen to us when the war's over?" The boy questions as he looks up to the ex con-man.
"Well, I was thinking.. maybe we can find a place of our own and settle down. Who knows, we might even get married and have a child or pet together." Nick smirked at Ellis who is now completely red from ear to ear.
"Aw, Nick! Do ya mean it?" Ellis exclaimed, almost in tears of utter joy. Nick planted a kiss on El's forehead.
"I do."..to walk away from this life.
