Once upon a time, there was once a little mermaid who lived in the sea. She loved to collect sea flowers and seashells. The little mermaid would wish she could be a human and walk around and run on the sand, but her father, the king of the sea, forbade her from visiting the surface until her 16th birthday. The little mermaid, named Kisha, watched her older sisters rise to the surface on their birthdays.

Then finally, on Kisha's 16th birthday, she rose the surface, excited to feel the wind blow her long blond hair out of her face. When she broke the surface, she gasped. She had never seen such a beautiful sight in all her life. She saw a small rock poking out of the waves and she swam towards it. She sat on the rock and looked around. She saw dolphins jump out of the water. She even saw a large sailing ship. Kisha swam towards the ship and saw a handsome prince on board. The prince, named Jovani, had brown hair and he wore a white shirt with a green belt and gray pants with shiny black boots.

Jovani looked like he was having a great time. A sailor came up to him and said "Happy birthday your highness!"

The prince thanked the sailor and went to a young lady. The young lady was his sister, Sarah, and she hugged Jovani and said "Jovani, you are now 16 and it is time for you to pick a bride. I'm only 14 and I have to pick a husband soon."

Jovani sighed. "Sarah, we've been over this, I will pick a bride when I'm ready, and I'm not ready yet. And it has the be the right one. I can't just marry a girl I don't love."

Jovani's words stayed inside Kisha's head. If only she could meet Jovani!

Then the sun went down and the stars came out. It was the most beautiful thing Kisha had ever seen! Twenty minutes later, dark clouds rolled in and the wind began to pick up. The waves grew higher and Kisha was having trouble staying put. The ship rocked and rolled and creaked and groaned. It was an awful sound. Jovani and his crew scrambled to get the ship ready to what felt like a bad storm. Thunder boom and lightning cracked the sky. Kisha had seen and heard many storms, but nothing like this!

Then, disaster. A rogue wave hit the ship, Causing it to shift off course and smash into some tall, jagged rocks. The sailors scramble to the lifeboats. But a falling spar hit the young prince and he fell into the stormy sea. Kisha watched the whole thing. She was pleased that Jovani was going to join her at her palace. But then she remembered that humans could not breathe underwater. Only if Jovani was dead he could visit her palace. No, he must not die!

Kisha swam beneath the waves and saw the prince sink down. His beautiful eyes were closing and he could no longer fight the sea. She dragged him to the surface. His breathing was weak and he took one look and Kisha before closing his eyes again. Kisha carried the young prince to shore where she laid him on the warm sand as the sun came out.

The prince coughed and he started breathing! Kisha breathed a sigh of relief. She sang a mermaid tune softly to him. She gently kissed the sleeping prince and put a shell in his hand.

The prince stirred and his eyes began to open. He looked at Kisha and smiled. But before he could thank Kisha, she swam back into the ocean. The prince heard his sister and crew coming.

"Jovani! Oh my god, are you okay! I was so worried when you fell overboard." She cried.

Jovani answer "Yes. I'm fine. I just have a scratch on my leg and arm."

Sarah helped her brother to their castle on the hill, overlooking the ocean. Kisha watched them disappear and she dove back down to her home. Her family was probably wondering where she was.

"How was it?" asked her older sister, Sasha.

In a dreamy voice, Kisha answered: "Oh it was lovely..." Then she just swam to her garden her grandmother had given her.
